5-star hotel? Quite overrated and 3-4 star (4 star at the maximum) seems appropriate.
It's a small boutique hotel (known with long history), well-located. But I cannot understand how this small-sized hotel can be granted 5-star, given there are lots of high-end hotels in HK central area.
vibe: at a glance from the pictures, It looks pursuing British traditional style, but it wasn't at all. It has changed a lot (more like to Chinese style). It is not a matter of good or bad, but want to stress that it was different from the images expected. The pictures may mislead the impression of hotel; therefore, they should be changed. Do not be misguided by the pictures on google.
room: small for its costs/rate.
staff: careless about their guests and seem to be untrained. Whenever passing the concierge, they were chatting themselves. Housekeepers chat in corridor loudly which was annoying.
amenity: bottle water is not provided. Each room is equipped with water purifier along with the notification that the housekeeper will clean it on a daily basis, but they shall not just rely on guests' trust that they will do so. It would be better to provide free bottle waters given the price we pay. Most of all, water from the water purifier did not taste well.
room temperature: visited in winter season, but the air conditioner could not be adjusted higher at a certain point, although the room was cold.
I do not recommend this place to whom expecting a luxurious hotel with 5-star. It is completely overrated, and you can find better accommodation with lower price, if you spend more time to research.
The only good thing I see in this place was...

We recently stayed at the Pottinger while we were in Hong Kong. It is in a great location literally a few minutes walk from Hong Kong station where the airport express drops you off.
The Central area also has everything that I love about Hong Kong from small alleyways with hidden gems to open air wet markets selling everything. Across the road from the Pottinger is even a one star Michelin star restaurant famous for it's roasted goose.
The staff at the Pottinger were fantastic - no request was too hard and they were always very friendly. At one stage, umprompted one of the staff even chased after my 2 year old son as he dashed out of the hotel. Even the cleaners would say good morning to us as we headed out each day.
They even offer a loan phone that you can use to accept calls and use the inbuilt apps. This saved us having to get a local SIM card and constantly switch them out.
The room that we stayed in was quite a bit size by Hong Kong standards. The same went for the bathroom.
We would definitely want to stay here again...
Read moreA great location for central Hong Kong. Perfect i might said. I could not give 5 stars because of this: we asked about hotel bar, and the desk helper told us we could not go because there was an event going... what? Well we decided to go anyway and check the place, surprise, surprise, there was almost no one and the event was a cocktail guy doing some special cocktails... and we decided to stay anyway.
Second day we decided, before bedtime, that we should go and and have a drink again at the hotel bar... surprise again: the girl at the bar entrance rudely asked us to leave in less than one hour, without even explain us why and that we had a minimum consume - we actually stayed 2 hours and no one came in, and we consumed a price under what she mentioned... does this make sense to anyone? Regarding the hotel itself the view of our room was not good, but well we are at Hong Kong ... I can be picky about the holes of the sheets, there were 3 ones... not huge obviously... I guess overall I recommend this place, but as I usually say... you can lost me or win me in the...
