I went in for dinner at 7pm on a Wednesday night and guys it's Wong Chuk Hang we are talking about, so I was one of the only two customers in the restaurant. I mean, I didn't plan to write a review when I walked into it, but then after enjoying the meal there while also having looked at some other reviews of this restaurant from Google and OpenRice, decided to write one of mine as all those reviews shared an opposite view of what I experienced.
First of all, the atmosphere is spacious and chill, man, without many other customers there, it's great to be dining in such a relaxing atmosphere with some on point light jazz music at the background. Right, I am not sure about lunch hour but I really enjoyed my time sitting in this restaurant. I can sit there for a long while reading or working on my laptop. The only not so good thing about its environment is you gotta leave the restaurant to go up to the 1st floor of the mall for washrooms.
Okay, food, I kinda ordered a set meal, which I call it a Japanese style beef curry set, which consists of (1) Hokkaido Sweet Corn & Chicken Soy Milk Potage; (2) Beef & Mushroom Curry with Rice; (3) Rice with Japanese Salted Soft Boiled Egg (+$10 to change to this from plain bowl of rice); and (4) Japanese Green Tea (Iced).
The potage is alright, a little sweet but acceptable as it's a corn potage; the chicken in it is tendered; it's a little silky so you can tell it's really made with soy milk. I would give it a 5 out of 10.
The rice with Japanese salted soft boiled egg is something I really enjoyed personally as I am always fond of egg cuisines, its salted egg is not so salty, I would say it's at a healthy level but still tasty enough while not too over to cover the taste of the main dish. I would give it a 7.5 out of 10.
Beef and mushroom curry is surprisingly good, the beef brisket is so tendered, with a fair anount of the mushrooms, sweet potatoes and carrots; the curry is amazing, an obvious Japanese style of curry but I believe they have added other things to make it taste unique, which I enjoyed and appreciated.
I read quite a few other reviews that criticised their food quality, which I don't find the same problem, I am not sure if it's dinner time so it's not busy and therefore the food quality is not the same as lunch hour's, I don't know, again I enjoyed both the meal and the atmosphere, so if you are looking for a chill and comfy place to have a relaxing dinner, I sincerely recommend you to come to this restaurant after office hours (which is after 6pm in this area).
Price of the meal: HK$120 (inc. service charge) (Yes not your regular Cafe de Carol kind of...
Read moreThe food flavour is just fine but the portion is quite tricky….. just two small pcs of chicken and the rest which look like chicken actually is all mushroom (lemon curry chicken with rice is what I ordered). I’ve politely the waitress nicely that if this is the normal recipe with just two chicken nuggets and she politely said yes. I was fine with that told myself I won’t come here again. By the time I tried to write a review and planned to give one star ⭐. The waitress ran to me and give me another bowl of chicken (she didn’t know I was writing Google review for sure). The attitude is great in this sense and so I changed one to 3 stars to show my little appreciation. Anyway, I comfort myself….. the meal set is low price, so what do you...
Read moreThe environment of the restaurant is quite calm and peaceful with a minimalistic design. Food comes very quickly even though I usually order takeout. The curries are so, so tasty, and the meals are wuite customizable. The soups are also great and the meals are always a reasonable price and portion while still very filling. Some options have only a few pieces of meat but some do have decent sizes such as their bowls and the katsu curry. The tiramisu and hojicha puddings (they're the only ones I've tried) are also very good, though their drink menu is ok with only a few options. Overall, I get food here very often and it is always a very versatile, delicious, and satisfying...
