Summary: we ate dessert here on a weekday in the afternoon. Service was awful.

Taste: mediocre, certainly nothing to write home about. The hojicha cake was overly sweet.

Service: very disappointing. It's as if customers have pissed off the waiters just by existing. The waiter that serviced us just threw down our food without a word (for a place with ~hkd100 per dessert, that's unacceptable). When we were halfway through our food and our tea still hadn't come, we asked our waiter about the tea which he impatiently replied "wait wait wait wait wait" in Cantonese. (For context, I speak native Cantonese, I'm just writing this review in English. This is NOT a case of a language barrier). This alone has ruined the experience for us.

By the way, the store was around half full when we were there. Not a case of waiters being too busy. This kind of service is exactly what we in Hong Kong need to call out so we can keep our reputation as a travel paradise.

Atmosphere: it's ok. There are other stores that do better.

Price: expect to spend around 100 per person for a dessert set with tea. Alternatively there are parfaits that cost around 100 without the tea.

Conclusion: the service ruined...

On 11th floor (ride escalator up to 2/F then find a lift). Love the dessert here sooo much - can’t comment on rest of menu as have only had sweet menu each visit. Consistently good which is to be expected given that this Japanese company has been running since the 1700’s! Homemade jelly is what they’re known for and you can tell why when you eat it. Faultless. Matcha and roasted tea flavours are equally delicious. Enjoy with the brown sugar syrup or (my preference) the soft serve. Jelly flavour matches to ice cream. I love the matcha slightly more than the roasted tea. And I love the soft serve slightly more than the ice cream but it’s all good! Roasted tea snow mountain also noteable.

Start with Wontons & noodles at Michelin place across the way and finish with dessert here. Complete the experience by browsing the exquisite Eslite store on floors 7-9 (I think). Love Hysan Place. Best toilets too 🤣

Also worth a mention is that the staff have been lovely every visit! Patient, friendly and gracious. A...

I am not a fan of green tea or matcha and dessert. When my friends suggested coming here, I hesitated. Just didn’t want to upset anyone; I decided to give it a try.

To my surprise, they are not just serving dessert and green tea. There are rice and noodles on the menu. Two of my friends and I ordered a rice combo and I have hot Genmaicha (brown rice green tea) too. Others ordered matcha dessert, they look really nice.

I like the rice combo, there are fish, scallop with walnuts, seaweed and salad with shellfish. Everything was so nice, from appearance to taste, just not the rice. I was expecting they serve typical Japonica rice (Japanese short-grain rice) but what I got is a bowl of brownish rice that was kinda tasteless😅. Luckily, the Genmaicha was good, it comes with a small hourglass which showed whether the tea is...

The renovation had done for more than two months. Finally, they opened two days ago. Since this brand established in 17th Century, so I have a higher expectation. I must say it's really disappointed! It is pricey and not worthy for money at all. In general, the dessert hadn't got much taste and the ice-cream was melting when presenting to table today. I prefer the matcha tasted bitter with strong green tea flavour and not too sweet. The one at ifc on 3/F is excellent to present the true flavour of Japanese dessert.
