I would give zero to service if I could.
Came in on we a weekday before 12noon. Only one customer waiting for her take out, plenty of floor staff chatting. When I came into the place, no one greeted me or directed me to sit down, so I naturally walked to the cashier to order food, thinking I had to order before getting seated. I ordered then I went to sit down at a table. Little did I know the cashier thought I was doing take out. When the box of food came, I told her I want to have it in the restaurant. She replied bluntly saying she had asked if I wanted take out or for here. I told her no, because the only questions she had asked was to clarify which rueben I wanted. At that point, I was like fine, I will take it to go.
Then she went "well, you will have to pay for 10% service charge if you want to have it here", with the look on her face treating me like I didn't deserve any service. No apologies.
That's the point it really got me: I was asked to pay extra 10% service charge for the lack of it. At that point, still plenty other floor staff around, including someone who looked remotely like a manager. No one offered me any alternatives.
I didn't want to make a scene. So here is the Google review. You can get better service in any local restaurants or cafe. Not this.
And not for a $145 sandwich set that has small pieces of bread, greasy smoked meat that is not flavorful enough.
Poor service, average sandwich that was overpriced. And please don't put the name "Montreal" anywhere near your menu. Yours is...
Read moreIf you’re on the hunt for a stellar pastrami cheese melt on sourdough, Morty’s is the place to go! I had it for lunch, and for $130, the quality did not disappoint. The sandwich was packed with rich, smoky pastrami, perfectly melted cheese, and crispy sourdough that hit all the right notes. It even came with a fresh, crunchy Caesar salad, making the meal feel balanced and satisfying. The portion size was decent, and everything was packed in a neat, well-presented box.
A heads-up for takeaway diners—while the staff told me I could eat at the BaseHall food court, I soon learned that Morty’s isn’t actually part of the food court. The BaseHall staff was polite and swiftly handed me a ceramic dish to transfer my sandwich, but it was a bit embarrassing. A little more clarity from Morty’s staff on where takeaway can be enjoyed would have been helpful.
Despite that, the food itself was fantastic, and I’ll definitely be coming back for another indulgent pastrami melt. Just make sure you know where you’re...
Read moreIt probably doesn't make sense to have meaty fatty food after gym, but how cud I say pass to a Reuben when I saw one. It has been a while for me to have some proper North American deli, Morty surely gives me that fix before I go back to NA for more.
A Reuben sandwich set comes with a side of your choice for HKD$154, some might say that is a bit steep but I would say it's well worth it. The pastrami was tender, smokey and juicy, sauerkraut lingered in between, served with soft rye bread, and a side coleslaw. Last but not least, a big stick of pickle, crunchy, well-spiced, and most importantly unlimited.
The short rib poutine was well-made too. Very tender short rib pieces, crispy fries, lathered with good amount of gravy, coated every single fries, definitely a taste of NA. Finally, wash everything down with a good pint of Goose...
