When I pulled up in my taxi at noon, there was no one to take my luggage or greet me. There were no porters at all. I saw an employee helping to load another group of guestsâ luggage in the car at snail's speed. Even after, he just stood there and completely ignored me. My taxi driver was dumbfounded and I had to open the door myself and carry the luggage inside while the employee watched; there were several staff members inside who did not bother to come out and assist. Later during my entire stay, I was not greeted once entering or leaving the property. The staff did not even bother to smile and just stared at me, unlike how they treated other guests.
Check-in was friendly and efficient. I was offered to sit down and hand the staff my ID and credit card. The room, however, wasnât ready initially, so I was told it would be ready in half an hour. Luckily, the wait was shorter than that and I was escorted to the room and given a friendly room tour. During the stay, except for check-out, the porters were not proactive in opening the door and sometimes ignored me, and did not smile either.
The first impression of the room was how small it was. Contrary to the advertised 730 square feet, it doesnât feel nearly as large. The bedroom area was like any regular five-star hotel room which comes with a large bathroom. Certainly would not be mistaken for a suite or even a junior suite. For a hotel that is widely publicized for the size of the rooms, this is questionable. The bathroom and closet area in the end are unnecessarily large and redundant. There is not a proper foyer.
The furniture is well-maintained despite beginning to show its age. The sofa was comfortable but sinks in and is aging but the desk/fridge area was a joy to use. Television was fairly obsolete and had sound issues. Switching channels would make the sound either quiet or loud. One thing to be noted here is that this hotel offers adult films on Television. Families with children should be aware.
Compared to newer hotels, there are no wash-lets with bidet. The carpet was visibly stained across the room and there were scratches inside the closet. The air conditioner was hard to control and wasnât working on the first presses. Even when itâs turned off the ventilation in the room is still not off. I still wake up feeling cold. One caveat was that the hair dryer had a scary burnt smell and only worked if you tilt it in certain ways.
My âmountain-viewâ room, was met with very little privacy. Neighboring skyscrapers of the Pacific Place and others take up most of the views and are within very close view. If the windows are two-way as they say, the people in the office towers could see clearly what goes on in the rooms. Overall, not a pleasant view to have. I did not get the nice mountain view in the advertising pictures. This is without question one of the worst rooms in the hotel.
There is a mandatory escalator which you will have to take to get to the rooms. This alone would be a reason not to return as I find it not very luxurious. The lobby area was also minuscule with little seating and pieces of luggage were stowed in public areas visibly.
Room service was consistently underwhelming except for a fantastic steak meal. Dan-Dan noodles were gooey and stuck together and tasted rather bad as well. Creme caramel was small in portion and had too much of an egg taste. Breakfast waffles were overpriced ($178) and mediocre. I would have to say each time I called, the operator was nice and well-spoken.
The check-out process was efficient but cold and informal. I was not offered to sit down like during check-in. Porter was quick to get the car door for me. But my luggage was not loaded in the car when I asked them to and I had to wave to them to load it. The car nearly left without it.
Overall I find the hotel to be overrated and overpriced. I did not feel like a valued guest and I can not see myself returning. The intention of this review was not for a better treatment in the future or any comp stays as I would rather stay elsewhere...

Read moreSpent 2 nights on a staycation and I had mixed feelings about this place. It's no doubt a great hotel, but mind you, TUH is listed as the 4th best hotel in the world, and it did not demonstrate why this prestigious position is justified.
First impression, this hotel was remodeled from a serviced apartment and clearly shows. You arrive at a reception area with no check-in desks but a small standing desk shared by 3-4 employees. There are only a few seating spaces too, which means when it gets busy (and it will), you will be standing while you wait for the staff to do their job. Also, since there's no dedicated concierge area, your stowed luggage will just be next to the entrance for everyone to see.
Now the room. It's unclear to me why their bigger room type (Studio 80) doesn't have a full harbor view, and you'll need to settle for a smaller room (Studio 70) to enjoy a full harbor view. The room was very spacious with an amazing bathroom that features 2 huge windows and a bathtub to enjoy the harbor view, although the staff politely pointed out that unless you are a nudist, it's best to close the blinds while you are showering/taking a bath, which kinda defeats the purpose. The staff kindly put up birthday decorations (ballons and banner) and wrote us a card, in addition to a small cake on the house. I have also mentioned in their pre-check-in form that I dislike humidity so they put a dehumidifier before my arrival, which was nice. 2 small knocks: 1) I brought my PS5 with me for a weekend gaming session and was surprised to find there's no plug near the TV area and I had to ask for an extension cord which kinda ruined the clean aesthetics of the room. and 2) the bed was too soft and felt like the mattress was collapsing.
Here comes the bad part, and it's mostly to do with service. My partner arrived later than me and she was disappointed that no one helped her with her bags nor acknowledged her. She told the front desk the room number and without asking her for an ID card or verifying with me (I did tell them a companion was coming later, but still), they straight up gave her an access card. My partner was confused so she asked them whether they needed to register her ID, and only then did the front desk say "Oh let me take a photo" and used what seemed to be her personal phone and took a photo. The whole thing was very messy and borderline unprofessional.
The front desk also locked me out on the 2nd day since I made 2 separate bookings for the same room type and they didn't link the 2 bookings together. Furthermore, I made the booking using my Amex card and was entitled to a 100 USD dining voucher, which I used in their restaurant, Salisterra. When I was checking out the front desk asked whether she could charge the bill to my card. I was confused since her colleague called me a day before to remind me about it so I told her about this and she got her manager involved, and only then did the manager confirm that the voucher offsets the bill. Oh and speaking of Salisterra, on our 2nd day there our breakfast took 30 minutes to arrive, and the waiter gave our drinks to another table. These lapses in service standards should never have happened in a standard 5-star hotel, let alone the 4th-best hotel...
