I recently visited Artemis & Apollo, a Greek restaurant, to celebrate a friend’s birthday, and unfortunately, our experience was quite disappointing.
When my friend made the reservation, she specifically requested the private dining room for our group. After not receiving a response via email, she called to confirm, and someone assured her that the room was booked. However, upon our arrival, we found that the room was already occupied. The manager on duty asked for confirmation details, making it feel like they were implying it was our fault for the mix-up. While we were waiting for the situation to be resolved, we were left standing at the entrance, even though there was a large table available. I understand that these things can take time, but the way we were treated felt very off. After about 10-15 minutes, we were finally seated at a long table.
Unfortunately, the service did not improve from there. One waitress, in particular, was exceptionally unwelcoming and rude, leaving us with the impression that she lacked experience in customer service. After we placed our orders, several of us were on our phones catching up on messages. Instead of kindly requesting us to shift, she yelled from across the table, "Ma'am, do you still need this?" and "Ma'am, could you please move so I can pour you some water?" Her loud, abrupt manner felt unnecessary and attention-seeking. It seemed she had no understanding of how to engage with customers respectfully, and many of her actions felt very off. She could have moved closer to us while serving, which would have eliminated the need for yelling and created a much more pleasant atmosphere.
Now, regarding the food: it was satisfactory, and I would recommend the warm pita, hummus, spanakopita, and lamb. However, I would advise against the pork souvlaki, as some pieces were cooked to a crisp and clearly burnt, as seen in the photos. While the food was decent, it certainly doesn’t compensate for the restaurant's lack of service.
Overall, I was really disappointed with the service at Artemis & Apollo. I hope they can improve their communication and customer service in the future, especially since a friend mentioned this isn’t the first time they’ve messed...
Read moreArtemis & Apollo is a Black Sheep restaurant offering up Greek food and drinks on Moon St. in the Star Street Precinct in Wanchai. Opening hours are 6-11pm daily (closed on Mondays). This is a no reservation place which is rather popular with local diners these days. So be ready to wait a bit for a table if arriving later in the evening.
We dined at Artemis & Apollo, arriving shortly after their 6pm opening time. We were immediately seated but found the restaurant almost full already. By the time our meal ended around 7.30pm, it was completely full up with around 20 people waiting outside for tables.
Seating area is that of a Greek tavern and tables are a bit tight. Menu includes a simple but good range of Greek dishes which are intended for sharing. There are dish explanations on the back of the menu if helpful. They offer has a nice list of Greek wines as well. Wait staff are knowledgeable, can describe dishes and are happy to make suggestions if you need.
During our meal we tried a couple of the Macedonian whites, finding them both to be just fine. Food items tried on the evening included mezze orders of roasted eggplant, Saganaki Platanos (fried goat cheese) and Spanakopita (crispy spinach and feta pastry) all of which tasted quite good.
We also had the Cyriot Salad that was perhaps our favourite dish on the evening. This was particularly flavourful and surprisingly tasty. The pork souvlaki was a very good spit roast order that went well with their pita bread. Lastly, we liked the Labneh cheesecake, finding it a nice dessert to finish off our meal.
In the end, we liked and would reorder everything served on the night and will gladly return to try more of the Greek dishes at Artemis & Apollo hopefully soon. This is a good restaurant in Wanchai, perfect for meeting up with friends or for date nights in a casual yet quality place...
Read moreMy review here is not about the food as we decided not to taste their menu, instead, we decided to leave the restaurant because of their attitude and service from the start. Like most of the other restaurants, I personally do not like the restaurant's approach of "focusing on table turnover" which means, they assign a certain amount of time per guest on a table to take the other customers right after. For some famous restaurants, I can just understand although it is never a good thing for customers - esp. keep telling us that "you need to finish your food until xxx" is a different thing.
No matter what, we are are all here to enjoy food and atmosphere so the worst I want to avoid is to be "chased" to finish the dinner and feel pressure while enjoying precious time that I can have with my friends and family. The service staff there briefly mentioned that due to the changed visit time, they can accommodate the table but likely we need to finish 1 and half hour. While I was waiting for my friend coming, I think they wanted to chase me one more time to order the food by telling that "do you know you need to finish this dinner in one and half hour?" while pouring the water. I told them that do not repeat this to me as I don't want to be chased to finish the dinner and no sorry and apologies and words that please enjoy your meal when time approaches we will tell you later.
Overall, I think this type of practice for restaurants in general should stop. They may be popular enough to take multiple tables per day to accommodate more customers. But they also should respect the time that customers want to enjoy and be careful of what and how they...
