This is easily the best coffee shop in Hong Kong. They have more origins on offer, and of a more elite grade, than any other I've been to in HK. Perhaps just as importantly, they offer elite origins on espresso, not just as pour-over, a mark of distinction because on the one hand, it shows they're not bound to a particular ideological view on what format of coffee is the best or most sophisticated, on the other that they aren't thinking strictly from a point of view of margin when it comes to what they offer in top-grade origins (this is arguably the main reason most shops don't do high-grade espresso and reserve better beans for pour-over: espresso is significantly lower-margin than pour-over, for the same quality of result).

Just as critically, quality of result in whatever format of coffee you choose is likewise the best. Both espresso and pour-overs that I got were made at the highest possible standard (and I saw other drinks in a variety of still-further formats that were likewise clearly best of breed), again, showing that here is a shop that is genuinely interested in delivering the best quality product to the customer rather than simply turning a profit.

Staff are clearly caring and interested, both in you and in their coffee. They take the coffee seriously, at the same time they treat you as a person and not just as another sales receipt. They're interested in educating the customer, and in listening likewise to what you have to say. Few staff at the typical coffee shop will greet you before you've even stepped into the shop - much less if the shop isn't even open yet, both of which happened to me. The crew is both skilled and passionate.

I find it interesting that, to judge by other reviews both here and elsewhere, the local custom values atmosphere at least as much as, if not more than, the quality of product on offer within a coffee shop. That's not really something that would occur to me as vital, as long as the product quality were good, and certainly it would not be enough for me to downrate a shop compared to a hypothetical shop having somewhat lower-quality product but a particularly congenial atmosphere. However, let it be said that the atmosphere, as far as I am concerned, totally lives up to the standard of the coffee - clean, minimalistic, something of a Scandi aesthetic, and in an ideal location which on the one hand seems perfect for lingering, and on the other is so conveniently placed that if your objective is just to stop in for the morning coffee, it will be almost immediately to hand. Sited in an area of extraordinary density of speciality coffee shops, here is the one that gives you a reason to select it over the competition.

Long may EN coffee reign over the speciality coffee scene in HK. Here, at last, is a shop that validates Hong Kong as a destination...

I wasn't familiar with this café initially, but after my friend highly recommended it, I decided to give it a try—and now I can honestly say I’m absolutely in love with it!
