IG: eatgosee This is a popular dim sum breakfast place is filled with a mixture of locals and Westerners. We came here very early in the morning for a few breakfast dim sum items but get here early because it fills up - a reassuring sign! This dim sum is not breaking any new innovative ground; it’s not modern and the presentation is utilitarian. That said there is a nod towards the classics as well as some more local options. There is a clear simplicity and homely feel about the food here shying away from complexity and just leaning into the staples. While this may not be the best dim sum that you’ll ever have, it may be some of the most comforting and in that we should perhaps look no further. The more memorable items included the turnip cake which was fatty, firm with a strong pork flavour. My standout favourite was the glutinous sticky Lotus rice: it’s one of my favourite dishes in any dim sum restaurant and this one did not fail. I would come back here for this one alone. The gloriously large shiitake mushrooms that reveal themselves like a prize toy in a kids cereal box. The salty lap cheong sausage, the subtle lotus tea-like flavour that seeps into the rice make this a very complete and enjoyable dish. If you have never had the sticky lotus rice dish before this is an excellent place to start. The crunchy garlic cheung feng was coated in a soft rice noodle that collapsed into a crunchy pungent garlic dim sum underlayer. This varying texture made it one of the more interesting dishes coupled with the unapologetically garlic driving through. The barbecue pork char sui buns are pillowy soft; my only request is the buns were more generously filled with the signature smoky but sweet barbecue meat. The shrimp shu mai steamed dumplings are plump, sweet and moorish. Would I come back here again? Yes I would. I enjoyed the casual atmosphere; the sticky lotus rice is very good, there is a restraint about the food and the decor that I enjoy. Again, this is not fancy and it’s not refined but it’s an enjoyable breakfast!

Dim Sum Square is a tourist friendly and popular place for dim sum in the Sheung Wan district of Hong Kong. Located along Jervois Street near the Holiday Inn Express. Opening hours are 10am to 10pm (Mon - Sat) and 8am to 10pm (Sun). If you arrive from late morning to early afternoon, expect to queue up outside for 20-30 minutes in order to enter and be seated at Dim Sum Square. If you go early (8-9am) on Sunday or later in the evening, you may be able to walk straight in. There are table menus with dim sum pictures and English names. They will provide you a traditional order sheet. You simply mark the number of baskets you want for each food order. If unsure, just ask the wait staff and they will assist in marking your order. Prices are very reasonable, expect to spend around HK$30-60 per person for a basket or two of dim sum per person. Dim sum is prepared fresh and served quickly. During a recent visit we enjoyed our crispy pork buns, bbq pork rice rolls and glutinous rice w/ assorted meats in lotus leaf. Everything tasted pretty good, worthy of return visits and repeat ordering. Our meal lasted around 20 minutes and we were on our way! Overall, we like the Dim Sum Square, it is a good, tourist friendly place to enjoy this Cantonese speciality food during visits to Hong Kong.

Sorry to say that the taste of the food is just ordinary and I definitely had much better dim sum elsewhere. I feel disappointed given the very good reviews that I read from others before trying this place. We ordered the Siu Mai (HKD29), shrimp crystal dumpling har gao (HKD32), shrimp rice rolls (HKD32), pan fried turnip cake (HKD20) and the chicken & mushroom rice pot (HKD32). We didn’t order tea but they served that anyway and charged HKD 8 for 2 pax. The food overall is ok but nothing special. Total bill came up to HKD153 and I would say it’s not cheap for the food that we ordered. Will I come back again? Well, most likely no since we can get much cheaper dim sum for the same kind and quality of food else where.

Came here for dinner as 4 pax after work, and they serve dim sums even at night. The place was pretty chill and we were brought to our tables as soon as we entered. The food IS AMAZING. I’ve been to a few dim sum places which are alright and hence never placed much expectations on dim sums. But the pork buns are so good - the crust is flaky and buttery and the filling is just sufficient. The rice rolls were so silky and soft, with the right amount of sauce. The carrot cake was so surprisingly soft and fresh as well. All the dishes came out hot and fresh! To make the dining experience even better, it was actually cheap for Hong Kong standards. Definitely definitely recommend this place

I am in love with this place. I regret going here only once on my visit due to time constraints. Lovely place a bit crowded and you have to pay only in cash. When we visited the restroom was under a makeover so couldn't use it, hope they have fixed it now. We tried a few dishes here and they were super tasty. Creamy custard lava buns - perfectly sweet and were melting in the mouth. Crab roe pork shrimp - it was good Spring rolls wrapped in rice balls - this was the best , a bit crispy a bit of soya sauce taste and very soft from outside. I would go here just for this one dish. People here were trying so many dishes seeing all that I felt I have a small appetite.

Visited in September 2020, we ordered 4 dim sums to share, the portion was just right for us. Staffs weres friendly. The environment was cleaned apparently after the case confirmation in the restaurant. The dumpling skin of the soup dumpling was too thick. Siu Mai was above standard. Good mix balance of prawn and pork meat. Quite recommended. My friend like the fried pork bun. But I personally think it was too oily. The veggie dumpling was quite good. The taste of the veggie fillings was flavoured well but not too overwhelming. A quite delicate dim sum to have here. Worth a try not a revisit
