Delicious food, mid drink, unfriendly staff.
SAVOURY FOOD 5/5: I ate the Tokyo Mazesoba (89HKD), for the price it is worth eating maybe minimum twice a week (bc who really has that much money to eat out everyday). It really was delicious, all the flavours mixed really well, I added the 'Kokoro vinegar' (EVEN BETTER). Next time, I would get the XL +20HKD just bc i have a big appetite like that. The noodles are nice and chewy its like the perfect texture. I really really enjoyed the mazesoba, highly recommend it.
DRINKS 3/5 I also had the cream cheese matcha latte and it was not sweet at all, the matcha was also quite weak. I understand that traditionally, matcha is enjoyed without sweetness, however when having a matcha latte, usually consumers assume that it's sweet no?) Eventually, I asked for sugar syrup, and it was just ok, below my expectations. Anyways for the price of ~$30HKD I probably would not have it again. I guess it's a personal preference hence, the rating, so if you like the lack of sweetness it's for you.
SPEED OF FOOD COMING OUT: 5/5 The food came out at a reasonable time and I was happy with how my food was still somewhat hot.
SERVICE: Maybe it's the way that the chairs are placed, and how everythiing is just a little cramped. I sat on a seat that has my back to the outside (where people walk) and the table itself sits about 3 person(s) for each side. The person who sat next to me left and there was this staff cleaning the table etc. When I was eating my food and watching my netflix (an introvert) she put her hands in front of me and gestured me to move (to the side? or stand up?) see- i didn't even know what she wanted me to do, there was nothing verbally and it was just hand gestures. Confused, I stood up and she moved my chair for me to the left (so that there would be more space for the empty chairs on the right). It just felt a little intrusive and the lack of verbal communication bothered me. I would have hoped for communication on what she wanted me to do i.e get up, scooch to the left etc.
In general, the staff were kind of unenthusiastic, no smiling seen. Maybe I just have high expectations, or it could be when I worked casually at a fast food chain they told me to smile more. This impression though is why I'm giving it a 2/5.
As someone who uses cash more often, I asked if I could use cash to pay instead of card since I saw someone paying at the seat with card. When I asked the person holding the digital payment machine if I could use cash, all he did was 'mm'. I struggle No eye contact or anything. It just felt a little dismissive.
ATMOSPHERE: 4/5 Decoration is nice and modern and has the japanese influence along with the origin story of this restaurant. The artificial plant was also nice to add onto the atmosphere.
If you had 3-4 people you would sit more comfortably than eating here solo. The 3-4 people have the classic couch/chair combo which would give ample space.
It is less comfortable eating solo (but not terribly cramped) just because you are close to the person next to you.
Despite this, I will definitely come back and try other foods. Might not have a drink, and might not have...
Read moreThis place is new according to my wife(a hkese local foodie) and she said we should try it so we did. Boy was it ever tasty. Perfect cold soba noodles for warm HK days. Mine had yuzu flavours to it and something else. So very tasty. The only part stopping it from being a 5 star review is being a typical HK place it's small, so you're sat next to strangers and me being non local it upset the patrons who were there and those that came in. Which made me alittle uncomfortable, not that I was uncomfortable cos of racism or whatever but when someone is uncomfortable around me I also feel uncomfortable. Sooooo in closing go here highly recommended for sure. Butttttt maybe go at non dinner or...
