The food is amazing for sure, no doubt about that. But the restaurant has some important problems that I've tried to mention here:
The main problem is that the restaurant doesn't have enough seats, and it's usually very crowded. So if you go after 7pm you need to expect waiting for an hour outside the restaurant in extreme heat and smoke! and when you finally go in, you may have to share the table with someone else. Also the food can take more than half an hour to be prepared so badically most of the times you have to dedicate more than two hours for just a dinner. There have been many times that I went so far just to go to this restaurant, because I simply love their food, but couldn't go in because it was too crowded. Also the restaurant doesn't have good air conditioning which is not very good for summer.
Another problem is that the prices are really high considering the place. You have to expect paying at least 110$ for a normal meal, which is quite high for this kind of restaurant. Another thing is that they charge a bit more than 10% service charge which is kind of rediculous considering the place. Also they only accept cash, probably because they don't want to pay tax, which is again inconsistent with their high prices. Once, the owner literally made me walk a few blocks after I finished my food to get cash from the ATM, because they didn't accept anything else, like octopus, credit card, alipay, FPS,...!
Also the restaurant is absolutely not clean, so make sure you're ok with that!
Anyway if you're ok with the not so clean environment of the restaurant and willing to spend 2 hours outside and inside the restaurant without aircon and willing to pay around twice as what the food is actually worth, it is a good option for you!
If you end up going there though, make sure to:
Have enough cash! Try the signature chicken tandoori, known as the full chicken (for two people) Try the garlic naan (one should be enough for one person, or maybe two if you eat a lot!) Try the mutton Korma...
Read moreThis is one of the best authentic Pakistani restaurants out there in Hong Kong. I have been a regular for quite some time of this place.
What I like about the place the food is cooked fresh (once you give the order, they start cooking) and they serve it hot as well
the portion sizes are HUGE enough for 2-3 people for most of their dishes
the taste is exceptional
the location is convenient
What I don’t like about this place The restaurant is located in a private apartment which has been modified as a restaurant. It’s small and can’t accommodate the amount of people coming in.
It lacks ambience since the place is quite old and the guesthouse nearby smells of cigarettes which is quite unpleasant. For the amount of people and sales you guys get, I suggest to go rent a better place for your restaurant.
There is no Octopus payment option for customers. As the government has given out consumption vouchers, I would request Siddique Halal Mess to add Octopus payment option. (It can be set up in a smartphone — it’s easy!). This will boost your sales.
What could be improved The service could be improved. There was no ticketing or ordering system that made it easy to find out who ordered first so we had to wait for an hour before we got our food. Have a ticketing system please.
Because there was no ticketing system, the waiter accidentally mixed up our order with a family...
Read moreEasily the best Pakistani / North Indian food in Hong Kong, hands down.
For starters, try the full chicken tandoori, fish fry, or the lamb chops. For mains, you can’t go wrong with the chicken karahi or any of the masala curries. And always add a lamb biryani and garlic naan for good measure!
Try to get there early (for dinner) as it tends to get busy from 7 onwards. If you’re having difficulty finding the place, you need to take a lift up to the 6th floor near the entrance and then turn right (into what looks like a residential flat).
EDIT: Finally tried the kheema daal and spinach (saag) & potato. Both...
