I was drawn to this Japanese restaurant by enthusiastic YouTube reviews promising an exceptional dining experience, but my visit was a major letdown. Upon entering, the atmosphere felt more like a hectic Hong Kong “Cha Chaan Teng” than a Japanese restaurant, with no trace of the serene, authentic ambiance I expected. The staff were unfriendly, offering no smiles, and their loud shouting of orders to each other created a chaotic and disruptive environment. The food was equally disappointing.

The egg roll was overcooked, with a hard, unpalatable texture that was far from the soft, fluffy consistency it should have had.

The fried chicken was a complete miss—scoring a mere 1/10. Its skin was soggy and lacked crispness, falling short of even fast-food standards like KFC. I couldn’t bring myself to finish it. The main dish was passable but served in such a small portion that it felt overpriced and unsatisfying.

Most frustrating was the rice, which was inconsistently cooked—some grains were hard, others overly soft. When I requested a replacement, the waiter acknowledged the issue, noting that several other customers had complained about the same problem. This suggests a lack of care in preparation, with staff prioritizing speed over quality.

To make matters worse, the restaurant was uncomfortably hot due to poor air conditioning. I overheard multiple diners complaining about the heat, and I was sweating throughout my meal, which made the experience even more unpleasant. Overall, the combination of an uninviting environment, inattentive staff, and subpar food made this a highly disappointing visit. I cannot recommend this restaurant and won’t...

The most terrible customer service. Even if the food is decent, rude staff ruin the experience and you’ve just lost a customer. The staff working during lunchtime on Feb 2, 2025 are the rudest waiters/servers I’ve met. Never been chased out of a restaurant when you’re the ones who never brought the dessert we ordered. Time limit or not, if you can’t provide service properly, then don’t set a time limit cause clearly your staff aren’t even aware if all items have arrived. We had to ask for it and your staff displayed the rudest face before going to “check the order”. The waitress collecting the payment for the bill still had the nerve to say in the rudest way that “just because you’re paying first, your time to eat is still up”. That’s after she was well aware that they forgot the dessert order and delayed it so much. Am I supposed to just leave the dessert on the table and be chased out? I will gladly stand at the doorway with the bowl and eat my dessert if that’s what you expect I do. People, save your money and go somewhere else. To the restaurant manager, go train your staff first before letting them ruin people’s...

Super Popular Japanese Home-cooked Food!

Looking for some super popular Japanese home-cooked food in Whampoa? Head to this restaurant that is always packed with people eager to try its highly popular Japanese dishes. Delicate and flavorful dishes can be mixed and matched to your liking, and we recommend trying the "rice + main dish + cold dish + hot dish" combination for the full experience.

Soy Sauce Egg and Fish Roe Rice Bowl Both rice bowls are delicious, thanks to the high-quality Japanese rice that is fragrant and fluffy. The combination of egg and salmon roe is a match made in heaven and tastes amazing. Moon-Viewing Hakata-style Chicken Ball Recommend pairing the juicy chicken meatball with a runny egg yolk. The meat is so tender and flavorful that it will make your taste buds dance. Yuzu Chicken Wings The tangy yuzu sauce coats the chicken wings perfectly, giving them a refreshing flavor that will stimulate your appetite.

So what are you waiting for? Head to this restaurant to enjoy some delicious and authentic Japanese...

Mai Hei is a homey Japanese restaurant serving customizable sets in Hong Kong. The menu boasts a diverse selection of side dishes. You are suggested to pick a rice, one cold, one warm and one hot dishes. Every dish comes in a small plate but they’re combined as a very filling meal altogether. They use Japanese imported rice topped with soy sauce marinated ranou egg yolk and salmon roe. Ranou egg (蘭王) is known for its bright orange-red color and strong egg flavor. The rice is fluffy, while the raw egg and salmon roe elevate it with a savory and umami flavor. I’ve been here multiple times with my family and friends, and we never got a dish that we disliked. What I got: *Soy Egg and Roe Rice 醬油魚籽飯 *Braised Pork Cartilage 豚軟骨煮 *Japanese Style Eggplant 和風茄子 *Chuck Rib Roll w. Garlic Spring Onion 蒜蔥燒牛肩肉卷
