Went there on a weekend afternoon and they only provided one brunch menu with free flow champagne. The price ranged from $788 with no alcohol and $988 to $1288 with different kinds of champagne. The menu included a huge variety of items from appetizer to dessert. Appetizer 🥢Seared Scallops Didn't expect it to be served cold as it wasn't stated in the menu but it was still pretty raw inside so the texture was good
🥢Blue Mussels This was a terrible dish to start with! Never had any mussels shrunken like these... Must have been cooked hours ago and put in the salamander to keep heating for hours
🥢Chilled Thinly-cut Pork in Chilli and Garlic Sauce The pork was thinly sliced, a bit tough but as a garlic lover I couldn't refuse the mashed garlic
Unlimited - funnily enough this is the unlimited session but the quality is the best among other food 🥢Steamed Dim Sum The steamed Dim Sum are overall okay. Served very hot
🥢Tiger Balm Fungus Bao I did not finish it because the dough was too thick and filling. My friend described the appearance looked just like the plastic floor mat in the park
🥢Charcoal Crispy Pork Dumpling Another black dish. Tasted just like normal Ham Sui Kok
🥢Deep-fried Dim Sum Served hot and crispy. Btw they put the bamboo leaf upside down on the rice paper wrap dish lol
🥢Sichuan Chili Pepper Chicken As the name says it's indeed chicken in chili. The taste was alright. Kind of spicy. But the chicken was overcooked and soooo dry
Main Course - here comes the most disappointing session 🍽️Wok-friend Cod in Sweet Chili and Oyster sauce I almost thought I was having a two-dish-rice. Served only slightly warm. The asparagus were even cold
🍽️Kung Po Chili Prawn Chili? Where's the chili? It's extra sweet and sour overcooked shrunken prawn
🍽️Grilled Lamb Rack with Fennel Seeds +$98 We had high expectations on this dish but none of us wanted to finish one rack .. It stated it was Mongolian style so I was hoping for some spices but turned out it was cooked in sweet charsiu sauce. I understand they wanna please more westerners but can't they describe the dish better on the menu? I definitely didn't want more sweet dish because the other two we picked were sweet and we wanted a balance. Also the lamb was totally overcooked, as tough as an unprocessed pork chop... This is honestly worse than buffet quality food
🍚Chicken and Egg Fried Rice with Yunnan Ham Another precooked dish straight from the salamander or rice cooker. Whatever. No wok hei and so little ingredients inside
🍰Dessert Platter Very pretty dessert platter as a finish. I didn't want any of the desserts because I was too full and had enough of sweet main courses
Overall the portion of the menu was huge but not enjoyable. We did not order any of the unlimited dishes again. They also had some optional signature dishes that guests might order like peking duck and barbecued pork. The server was attentive, kept refilling...
Read moreOMG, let me tell you about Hutong. First of all, I still want to acknowledge the beautiful atmosphere of the restaurant. The stunning view, high-end yet welcoming dining areas, and traditional chinese decor created a unique and immersive experience. The lighting design is top level, and the music playlist added a lot to the ambiance. The sound and the presence of the chef passing by with the flaming duck trolley is also very exciting.
In terms of the food, I found it to be quite good compare to our last time especially considering the value for money offered by the set menu. I often recommend Hutong to my clients, specifically suggesting they try the duck or dim sum platter.
However, I must express my disappointment with the service provided. The staff seemed to lack knowledge about the food and drinks, and they were unable to make any recommendations. Furthermore, the menu was dirty, with crackers stuck on it and oil stains. Despite bringing this to the attention of the waiters, they returned with the same dirty menu when we requested other beverages.
Same as last year, we came for our anniversary celebration, so we ordered 2 glasses of champagne. First of all, the waiters forgot the order, and they were served without any presentation or showing of the bottle. Additionally, the glassware provided was inconsistent compare to other tables, and the pour of champagne was small compared to its price of 178HKD + The waitstaff seemed unaware of the quantity poured and had to consult with each other to provide an answer of 125ml which i felt the pour did not match. We also ordered two types of tea. They forgot and ended up blending them together in one cup. Furthermore, when we expressed our concerns to the waiter, he left the table without addressing the issue. The waitstaff also failed to provide any explanation of the dishes served through the night, although they were delicious. If you dare mention something to the manager, he will become upset and drop you the food with an attitude by making sure he destroyed the presentation after shaking it.
I also want to mention that it was disappointing that our anniversary was not acknowledged or given any special attention, but no wonder as the team is following the poor leadership.
In summary, while Hutong offers a visually appealing atmosphere and decent food, the service provided does not meet the expected standards. The staff's lack of professionalism and attention to detail, along with the issues mentioned above, detracted from the overall experience. I would not recommend Hutong to those seeking an...
Read moreI recently had the opportunity to visit this restaurant based on a recommendation to enjoy the light show and try the famed Peking duck. While the food—particularly the duck, hot sour soup, and the stunning light display—was undeniably impressive, the overall experience was sadly marred by exceptionally poor service.
From the outset, our server was aloof and dismissive, never once checking in to see how we were doing or even offering a warm greeting. She was notably sassy from the start and, after taking our order, disappeared for long stretches, leaving us feeling completely neglected. At one point, my sweet grandmother ordered a bottle of champagne, and after our first glass was finished, we waited a full ten minutes before she finally had to pour her own from the bucket, which was placed at the other end of the table. The lack of attention was baffling, especially when we observed the staff gathered in a corner, chatting and texting on their phones, seemingly indifferent to their guests.
Even more concerning, the table next to us was left with empty plates and no water for over 15 minutes, which only highlighted the neglectful service we were receiving. For a place that isn’t exactly inexpensive, and one that prides itself on offering a premium experience, the level of attention to customers was shockingly poor. The crab dish, priced at $150 USD, was a particular disappointment—covered in an excessive amount of pepper, with more shells than meat, making it a messy and unsatisfactory experience.
To make matters worse, the restrooms were in a state of disrepair, which further detracted from the ambiance. After sitting for 20 minutes without a bill or even a refill of champagne—while the staff continued their casual chatter in the back corner—I’m left feeling frustrated and disappointed. As this was my final night in Hong Kong, it’s disheartening that such a beautiful location with so much potential was marred by service that completely missed the mark. I can only hope that others have a more pleasant...
