Kadorar (Kadoorie) Bakery is a popular local bakery with several shops around Kowloon including this place at the Man Yuen Street and Ferry Street intersection in the Jordan District. They are open from 6.30am to 6pm daily and for all intent and purpose are a typical Cantonese bakery serving egg tarts, pineapple buns, wife cakes and a similar spread of breads and baked food items that you see at hundreds of local bakeries around the city.
However, Kadoorie is famous here in Hong Kong for their French Pudding Buns (HK$15) which are made fresh each afternoon. People will queue outside the shop 20-30 minutes early to purchase on a first-come, first-served basis until the buns are sold out. Presently, the French Pudding Buns are brought out at this branch at 1.30pm and again at 4.30pm each day.
Note: At the branch on Pitt Street in Yau Ma Tei, the buns are brought out at 4.30pm and 7pm while at their place on Waterloo Road in Ho Man Tin, they are brought out at 2.40pm (as of March 2022).
The French buns are basically light sweet custard that is lightly baked inside a light bun with an open top. The pudding texture is smooth, silky and creamy. Best served heated if you have access to a microwave or oven but good as well if not. The French Pudding Buns are served in a plastic bag if you purchase 2 or a sturdy box if you purchase 4.
In the end, the French Pudding Buns are a genuinely delicious local food that you can try here in Hong Kong, something fun to do with friends and family while seeking out great local foods to eat...
Read moreTo be honest, I’m not sure how bakeries in Hong Kong make a profit because I found the prices to be incredibly cheap, especially considering the cost of rent in the city. Not only are the prices low, but the taste is absolutely amazing. For example, in London’s Chinatown, buying something similar would easily cost over £2, but here it’s much cheaper, and the flavors are far better. Today, I bought a pudding bun, and the pudding inside was soft with a rich milky flavor – much tastier than anything I’ve had in mainland China. The outer crust was chewy but didn’t get soggy from the filling, making it really enjoyable. The sweetness was just right too. I also bought a small pork floss bagel, and although it was tiny, it had great flavor and a nice chew. I highly recommend this bakery! The owner was very friendly and let me freely pick out what I wanted. Overall, it was a...
Read moreThis hk style bakery is very popular among the neighbourhood. It's THE BAKERY if I'm hungry for egg tart. It's a 5 mins walk from my home and we have never tried the bread pudding until today.
Around 2ish Sunday afternoon, there was NO line outside the bakery (usually the line is crazy in the weekend afternoons), just a couple of people inside the shop. We managed to get 4 (I believe that's the maximum amount you can get for the bread pudding) and brought home for dessert.
Once we opened it, we were not certain should we eat it as it is or reheat it.

A simple 10 mins in the oven make the pudding creamy and suscrumptious while the bread crispy and crunchy! I'd recommend to eat half the pudding before you start biting into the bread. It was a perfect sweet fix with a cup of black coffee in a...
