If you get tired of HK street food like I do, PANO will be a nice choice to pacify and comfort you stomach.
I had 3 main courses for lunch ($389).
Started with roasted pork belly and gem salad. Pork belly is a little bit smoky and grilled nicely without too much fat. Accompanied with fresh salad, including crunchy peeled cucumber, cherry tomato, sliced orange and leaves I can’t named. Dressing is-alike honey mustard, lightly sour and sweet, which is refreshing.
Main course is barramundi (a kind of sea bass from Australia) with pomelo sauce. I was astonished by this main course since the fish fillet is cooked crispy on the skin side while flesh kept tender. You can tell that fish is fresh and high quality. And the fillet is hot and warm enough, while the temperature lasting for long til I had last my bite, which is brilliant. The pomelo sauce is impressive, too. It’s actually made of shrimp or lobster shell. Creamy with a taste and smell of ocean but not too thick and heavy, the sauce played an appropriate role alone with barramundi.
Dessert is chocolate ganache tart topped with hazelnut cream and gelato. Crunchy tart filled with fruity chocolate ganache that melted in your mouth genteelly, gives you a pleasant feeling. Wonderful to have a cup of coffee with it.
I really appreciated how chef paid attention to these details for giving customers good and comfortable experience, since these details makes no “magical moment” like some fancy cuisine, more important.
PANO may not (yet) a Mechilin restaurant. Some people judge the portion of plates is too small. But I’ll say, tired travelers who ate too much greasy food in Hong Kong like me need this kind of treatment.
PANO is also a nice choice before you leave Hong Kong since you can take buses or HK Express directly to the airport after you had meal here.
Not to mention the beautiful sea sight you can enjoy here.
(The only flaw I would like to complain is the butter come with bread. The Bread is baked freshly, full of fragrance of wheat. But the butter doesn’t play outstanding with it. It’s better to have the...
Read moreThe food at this fine dining restaurant is delicious, with a beautiful view of the night scene across Victoria Harbour. There are two tasting menus available, including a vegetarian option. While the servers seems doing their best to provide service ( waitresses overall perform better than the waiters ), there are areas for improvement:
For instance, the waiter led us to the table by saying "follow me" without greeting, pointing with a finger when he introduced the dish; wine was sometimes poured from left side of the customer, no introduction of the wines served. I suggest that the manager or owner consider providing additional etiquette training for the staff, which could definitely elevate customers’ experience. ( Just note this service problem had been posted by other reviewers repeatedly already, manager/ owner has no way to improve this ??)
Furthermore, during the winter months, the restaurant can feel quite cold due to the wide-open door. When booking table the lady already remind us to wear more clothes but it turn out still feeling cold with the wind. Could the restaurant partially close the doors to maintain a warmer indoor environment? This could allow customers bear to sit longer to enjoy their meals...
