Best Set-Thali & Dosa in Hong Kong
I was coming to Sangeetha Restaurant after a very lonnnng time (I should visit more often!š)... but they certainly managed to still maintain the SAME GREAT TASTE & FLAVORš... and the SAME LEVEL OF SERVICE . Itās no wonder that they successfully run this brand of restaurant across many countries!
Their SET-LUNCH or as they call it Thali, is the best Iāve had in any South-Indian Restaurant in Hong Kong. On the menu, there are multiple choices of Set-Lunch combination .... where each choice contains food from a totally different Indian state/region. This time I chose a āNorthā-Indian version (... in a āSouthā-Indian Restaurant? ....hahaš). Maybe next time I will try the Set-Lunch of another region. And I wasnāt disappointed at all.šš»There were 4 different gravies/curries (one of them was lentil/dal) in the Set and each one had a different level of spiciness and different ingredients. It also had a Fried Rice and the Naan bread. Overall, this was a tasty set lunch which had a lot of varieties in it. Certainly recommended!!šš
The Dosa is obviously the KEY delicacy of South Indian cuisine so their menu had a TON of varieties of Dosas. We ordered one of the simpler versions i.e. the Paneer Plain Dosa (the more complex versions are the ones which have many fillings or āMasalaā inside them). This one was pretty good, it didnāt have any filling inside it but rather had a thin layer of spicy paneer (or cottage cheese) on the inside.
Feeling a bit adventurous, we also ordered one of their SIZZLERS š ... the Paneer Tikka Sizzler. It was a bit oily but also very tasty and crispy, and contained green peppers, onion and spring onion... in addition to the sizzling paneer. There were certain other choices of sizzlers too such as Cauliflower (which is actually pretty...

Ordered 2 mixed thalis and dosa. The thali dishes were bit spicy. Dosa was good. Chutneys were ok. Table Service was prompt but the person in the billing counter was rude and looking down at people. I gave my international debit card which I had used everywhere else in Hongkong for payments but for some reason their machine didnāt work initially. I was ok with this but after the transaction was successful with the same card the man in the counter flipped at the card and asked āis this some finance companyā ? Guess his ego was hurt at this stage. I was still polite and explained its a overseas bank for which his reaction was āwhat everā. Worst bit was their female waiting staff person(with glasses) passed a comment to another male wait staff in Tamil that my face turned pale (moo ja paakanum) during our conversation ! How long would it take to reply back ākannadi paakara pazhalakam iruka?ā? Just because I was polite it doesnāt mean your staff can talk what ever they want. This just shows their up bringing and the work culture in the hotel! If you are the owner and reading this, please train your staff to be polite too. I m from chennai and have always visited sangeethas when ever possible as we have a family link to the founders. I hope I donāt come across such rude and arrogant...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreSangeetha is a southern Indian vegetarian restaurant located on the upper ground floor of the Wing On Plaza in TST East district of the Kowloon Peninsula. They are open daily from 10.30am to 3pm and 6pm to 9.30pm (weekdays) and 9.30am 4pm and to 6pm to 9.30pm (weekends).
Seating is casual and menu features a range of expected dosi, uthappam, thali and typical southern Indian starters such as idly and vada. They also serve a handful of northern Indian dishes as well. Prices are very reasonable for South Asian restaurants here in Hong Kong.
During a recent lunch, we had a dosi and Southern Indian thali served with a bowl of plain rice and everything tasted great. The dosi, chapatha and roti were good quality and the various thali dip servings were good representation of the six taste elements (sweet, sour, salty, pungent, bitter and spicy) and each was flavourful, making for a balanced and delicious lunch.
We also had sambar idly & vada which tasted fine, salty lassi was thick and quite good. Chennai style filter coffee was sweet and very good.
Overall, very happy with our recent lunch at Sangeetha in TST East. This was a better Indian meal than we are used to in HK and a nice opportunity to enjoy some healthy vegetarian food as well. We look forward to dining here again...
