Soda Garabito! The best soda in town for fried fish and chicken. Anytime I was out and about when living in Jaco, this was the lunch place for me. The owner and everyone who worked there were very welcoming to the Gringo they saw at least once per week. And they have pickled veges on the table everyday, one of my favorite toppings for any rice dish. I can't tell you how friendly and welcoming these people are to gringos. I would hope that I played my own part in that I was nice and always tried to communicate in Spanish, be cordial and thankful. ANOTHER THING; THEY WERE ALWAYS CAREFUL TO LET ME KNOW WHAT MY CHANGE WAS AND NEVER ONCE DID I FEEL LIKE I WAS GETTING THE GRINGO TAX WHEN USING US DOLLARS. They were careful to make sure I knew that and I always appreciated it. Soda Garabito will always be synonymous with Playa...
Read moreOMG! We went to several Sodas (local restaurants) while in Costa Rica and this was my favorite. The food was amazing, you got a lot of it, the flavors of the components of the dish were amazing and authentic, prices were great, and the staff were so nice and smiled at you. They were working hard too! We had casados (local dish of rice, beans, plantains, meat like chicken or beef, salad), sandwiches, empanada, hamburgers, local fruit drinks, and fruit shakes. ALL of it was SO GOOD! The place was large, airy, and very clean too. And, the prices were really affordable. it was like $5 for a huge casado with a drink! Many of the customers were locals. This is a really great place that everyone should eat at while in Jaco. You may end up going back several times for lunch and...
Read moreWe stayed in a hostel a few blocks from Soda Garabito. In my country we call 'sodas' to corbonated drinks like coca cola or pepsi, so I have no idea of what a soda was. Soda Garabito was the second soda I visited during my stay in Jaco and it was amazing. The food was very good, I loved how they cook the beans and mixed it with rice and chicken or meat. After 2 days I got really tired of having meals in the popular sodas around Jaco but it was one the cheapest options, good meals at a reasonable price comparing to other options we found. I would say the best Soda I chose for lunch and dining. It's a little bit away from the noise of nightlife in Jaco but it's totally worthy to take a walk all the way to Soda Garabito while you enjoy the sense of freedom...
