My family had a very frustrating experience here last evening. We arrived around 6:30, just before a large tour bus. We placed our dinner order around 7. I ordered a ribeye, since this place has a reputation for great steaks. The waiter informed me they had no steaks whatsoever thanks to the large group (which arrived after us). So fine, I ordered the tuna instead.
At about 7:50 the waiter came to apologize and let us know our food would be ready in 8-10 minutes. 25 minutes later, at 8:15, there was no food in sight. Meanwhile, the tour group on the floor below us was already on dessert. At that point I informed our waiter that we would be leaving. The poor kid seemed distraught and exasperated. Clearly it was not his decision to make sure these 40 people in the tour group all got their food before we got ours.
Too late to try another restaurant with two hungry kids, we ended up dining on microwave popcorn and ice cream in our hotel room. Not exactly the night we were planning on.
I understand large groups can disrupt operations. But this was too much. They knew these folks were coming (I asked). The place is plenty large enough to handle a crowd this big, so presumably they should be operationally prepared to do so.
This is no way to treat a customer....
Read moreWe came here for a Costa Rica Decents "farm to table cooking class" and that's what my review is for. This restaurant really should be more busy, it's a great vibe just a little off the road so hard to see ("the boathouse" name is tiny in the corner of the sign by the road that says steakhouse), I wish we had one more night so we could come back for the steak and burger! Warner and Spicy Melinda were so fun! Honestly the whole experience was fantastic. Getting to know about their organic farming, seeing how they grow things (and what) in the climate here and then getting to make empanadas and ceviche (thank you for making mine sin pescado!) was so fun. The fact that Warner let us practice our Spanish on him was just icing on the cake, pretty sure he went easy on us with the vocab he used because surprisingly I felt like I understood 90% of what he said! 💜 10/10 100% would recommend! I wish I could remember the name of the salsa they gave us, it was with an L, I meant to ask if it was something we could buy in a bottle to take back with us. It had brown sugar in it along with onion, tomatoes, cilantro etc. And the spicy Melinda original sauce was amazing, if you like spice you HAVE to ask...
Read moreCame here after our white water rafting tour. Everyone got the same thing, casado with chicken, rice, beans and veggies. It was such a simple meal, but it was so good!!!! The chicken was cooked perfectly with a delicious sauce that was flavorful and complimented the plate. The veggies weren't overcooked and mushy (which I have had a couple like this on the trip). The dish came with two different sauces, a verde and a hot sauce. Take both and do not skimp out. The hot sauce was garlicky and not even super hot. They offered a delicious iced tea sweetened with sugar which my friend doesn't even like tea and thought it was good. At the end they came around with fresh pour over coffee. They also have a garden and farm out back so we got a tour of that as well. We also got to make sugarcane juice, drink it and everyone got a shot of guaro. But the...
