Buyer Beware: Questionable Ethics
My first cup of "HOT" coffee there was lukewarm. The food was good but also had some shortcomings from the staff. I had the American Breakfast. They only toasted one side of the bread. So, if you like your toast to be crispy, good luck with that! It includes an overly processed & over-sweetened strawberry "jam" & a glass of OJ.
I've been to Costa Rica & specifically La Fortuna before & never had such a horrible experience as I did on this trip. It's as though locals were colluding to engage in mischievous behavior to diminish my travel experience & take sides against me in an ongoing covert manipulation scheme that seems to be following me from the US. I come here to relax. I don't go whoring. I'm low-key & just in the country to chill. In fact, I believe they were put up to this & much of what I experienced at this restaurant comports with the alleged ongoing criminal conspiracy to deprive me of free unfettered enjoyment in life as is typical of others & was previously my experience. I believe that some of the tourists visiting there were also recruited to join in. A word to the wise is sufficient.
I went back after my first visit & they ensured that my coffee was hot as I made sure to specify this in my order each time thereafter. I realized that a quick touch of the cup helped ensure it was hot enough to drink. Luckily, I didn't have to refuse it. Nevertheless, the experience still left something...
Read moreWe were there for breakfast, as the one in our hotel was not much cop. Unfortunately we found this one to be a tad underwhelming too. American breakfast sounds exciting, but is really only a bit of congealed scrambled egg with overly crispy bacon. At least the coffee was decent, but the juice was (again) ultra-processed stuff. Why? Or why, in an area with more cows than people do you get margarine when you ask for butter? Why is the scrambled egg not made with cold butter (the only way) and lightly undercooked so it's still moist and soft when served? The place itself is light and airy and could be a top location with a little bit of care and attention. It suffers from the muzak issue we have encountered in EVERY place we ate/drank. Owners thinking like "let's give them a bit of lounge piano plinky plonky, that will bring in the crowds for sure". Well no, it doesn't, it's annoying in the extreme, the staff seemed to liven up a bit when we made them change the background music, there was a collective sigh of relief. Bit overpriced for what it was, but when you're that close to the US,...
Read moreI enjoyed everything about my visit to the Rain Forest Café - the decor, food, drinks, and service were all excellent.
I had the vegetarian sandwich with a side order of chips (french fries) and a latte. The sandwich was huge and filled with lots of fresh veggies. The chips were really good and the latte was superb.
I’ve read several reviews regarding slow service, and yes service in Costa Rica is generally notoriously slow everywhere, but good things come to those who wait! Personally I don’t mind waiting, but if time is an issue (or you’re super hungry) I wouldn’t recommend visiting any sit down restaurant in Costa Rica - go to the supermarket or grab something to go from a food stall instead.
I wish we had stayed in La Fortuna for longer, as I would have liked to have returned here to try more items...
