What a fabulous restaurant! We have 3 people in our group with celiacs (gluten intolerance) and 2 of those 3 are also vegans, so finding a restaurant for everyone can always be a challenge. The Green Spoon was a wonderful find. The menu was very vegan and gluten friendly, but also had great options for everyone else. I highly recommend the gallo ticos, especially with their in house hot sauce. Our server was very knowledgeable and considerate of the groups dietary restrictions, and the owner stopped and checked on us as well. All in all a fantastic experience! Our favorite restaurant find during our Costa Rica trip. We liked it so much we visited again the next night.
Update: We ended up going back for a third night in a row, we had been on a guided nature night walk (which was amazing!) so we didn’t have much time to decide on a place for dinner, since most places close at 9. So we returned to our favorite, and it was once again spectacular. Ana was our server all three visits, and she was wonderful every time! She even gifted me a small container of their hot sauce, which is probably my favorite hot sauce I’ve ever had! Sadly we will not be able to return for a fourth visit to the Green Spoon as we’re heading out to Monteverde tomorrow. But if you find yourself in La Fortuna, stop by the Green Spoon, you...
Read moreWe ordered hummus and pita for appetizer and then shrimp penne pasta, sea bass fillet and chicken & rice for mains. Everything was exceptional. The pita was freshly made, warm and soft and went perfectly with the hummus….. we gobbled it down in less than 5 minutes ! My children absolutely loved their pasta and it was a large serving sharable between them two. The tropical sea bass was totally unique and delicious, with a mango sauce over the fish fillet and paired with plantains and cassava sticks. The chicken and rice was also delightfully flavorful and went well with the side of fries and salad.
I’m going to withhold one star, despite the great appetizer and entree. Firstly because the food took too long to arrive, we were waiting for close to 35 minutes. Secondly, the dessert was not as impressive as the mains. My children asked for regular brownie with ice cream and turned out they were out of the regular. So we went for the vegan variety and the vegan tasted nothing like a real brownie. It was soft, soggy, tasting heavily of bananas and with an almost too hard crust on the top. I hope they find a more suitable vegan brownie recipe.
The ambience is vibrant and cheerful and the location is convenient. The owning family is also rather warm...
Read moreMy partner and I had the pleasure of dining at The Green Spoon, and it quickly became a highlight of our trip to La Fortuna due to its ability to cater to both vegan and non-vegan palates with equal deliciousness!
I was obsessed with their vegan Casado. So much so, I ordered it two days in a row! The chickpea flour croquettes were phenomenal, even my non-vegan partner agreed. Everything from the sweet plantains to the salad, rice, and beans were perfectly cooked and seasoned, creating a truly satisfying and memorable meal.
My partner was equally impressed with the chicken and rice dish, as well as the comforting and flavorful pumpkin soup as an appetizer we both enjoyed.
The service was also unparalleled- the staff were attentive, friendly, and passionate about making certain we had a lovely experience.
Whether you're a dedicated vegan, a meat-lover, or somewhere in between, The Green Spoon is a must-visit in La Fortuna. I can’t wait to return on...
