Traditional Moravian, Czech and Slovak cuisine, good beer, cozy atmosphere of an old village (hence the name, a combo of Canteen (?) and Skanzen - a preserved historical village) with wood panelling, rough furnishing and matching decor.
We were lucky to come at Easter so we had some specials - the Pea cream soup was "thick" and hearty, the Rabbit in sauce well cooked and the sauce maybe the best we have ever had ("na smetaně"). Also great were the staples, Beef tartare (although I would have preferred less chopped onions mixed in) and Mince-filled dumplings with 'kraut. The beer was well tapped and served, fresh with no sign of fail, including the green special.
Service was impeccable, friendly and fast, even if one beer glass was not spotless. Oh and beware the portions, we had to walk it off a bit 🤣❤️

Read moreIt's a really cosy and clean restaurant. The staff is friendly and quick. The decor is sophisticated and the back has a romantic atmosphere. The beer is fine. However I wasn't too satisfied with the food. It looked delicious but it was strange. I ate grilled chicken with mushroom sauce and fried potatoes. The mushroom sauce was really-really salty. I love salt and mushrooms, but this was too much for me. The chicken and the potatoes were good. I ate the half, my partner ate the other half. My partner ate a cucumber salad, that wasn't bad, but average. He ate a pasta with sausages too. It didn't have much taste. He liked the food, but he thinks too, that is average. Sorry, maybe if we go next time, it...
Read moreI was pleasantly surprised by the place. The restaurant is styled as a traditional Czechoslovak house from a century ago. The meals are also interesting. Some meals are from the era of Austria-Hungary, some are Czechoslovak, or even typical Slovak. None of this is that common in Brno. Considering all this, the place gives a bit cheap impression. Maybe it's the price for being that thematic. Meals were good. I would recommend to try beef broth and then halušky with bryndza. The place would be especially interesting for tourists that want to experience some traditional or historical meal. It helps that the whole menu is already in English. Thumb...
