Dirty Dog Barbeque — Restaurant in Prague

This is exactly what I would expect from Europeans trying to make American food. The idea is right, the desire is there... but the execution fails because American-style BBQ is not as easy to do correctly as it seems. Sure, it's "just grilling meat" in many ways, but smoking meat and getting the flavours and sauces right is a skill. So is the choice of meat cuts.

I though a bit of BBQ might be a nice lunch. It wasn't bad, at all. It was just not... great.

The ribs were large but mostly fat. The fat wasn't rendered particularly well and the choice of meat wasn't the best. I like to get a nice bite of juicy meat, not a mouthful of gooey fat. Sure, it fell off the bone but not in the good way. The sauce was mediocre and lacking in that special BBQ zing, for lack of a better word. I had originally wanted Nashville hot chicken because I love it even more than ribs and haven't been able to find it in a long time, but when I saw it here, wet and covered in sauce, I knew this was not an authentic place. NHC does not use sauce, it's an oil. Very different. And seeing it soaked in some red sauce is a red flag to me.

Mac n cheese was basic. Not baked, and really wet. I'll admit I am very picky about mac n cheese so it does take a lot to please me, but I can appreciate a decent attempt. This didn't really do it for me. I had 2 bites. The coleslaw was coleslaw. I felt bad because I didn't actually want anything except the meat, but I was forced to choose sides (and thus waste food). I understand it's included in the price, but if a customer doesn't want sides, you shouldn't force them to take them. It just went in the trash, which is wasteful. You also don't get a lot for the price.

If you are seeking authentic American BBQ, this place is not that. But if you want something different from the typical foods in Prague and aren't very familiar with excellent BBQ, it's definitely...

Really good example of American BBQ in Prague. We went twice to try different things.

The smoked wings are awesome, almost perfect. I grew up near Buffalo NY so always picky when I see a place say buffalo wings, but these guys have done well. The second time it was a little more salty than previously, but still ok.

Smash burger was good as well, but I'd pass on the make it spicy add it just makes it more sloppy IMO.

Ribs, chicken, pulled pork, all good eats.

Staff were very friendly.

Manifesto is cool but this is some of the worst food I’ve ever had! I waited 45 mins for my food, chasing once, and then the second time he was like “it’s here!” despite the buzzer not going off. Which meant “it’s been lying here, and it’s now warm not hot!”. Generous portion but the Mac n cheese was as dry as sand (and lukewarm). The pulled pork was tasty but again really dry. Disappointing. Another girl I got talking to had been waiting half an hour… it wasn’t rush hour so we were genuinely confused what took so long… So, in short, the food market as a whole is really great but try another...
