MATTES Restaurace — Restaurant in Prague

What a great place it is! I was just wondering why I tried it only now, after driving past so many times. I guess it is because just by the look of it you don't really know that it's a classical Czech restaurant. Honestly, I thought it was more like a cocktail bar or something very very teenager-oriented. And then me and my wife decided to give it a try. And we loved everything! Very nice interior, nothing fancy, yet everything cozy. The waiter was very nice, very patient with my very broken Czech and whenever necessary ready and able to switch to English. We naturally loved the food we ordered, pork ribs and svickova. The ribs are excellent, meat very soft, easily coming off the bone, which is always a great sing of great ribs. Svickova delivered everything you expect from this classical food, tasty sauce, tender meat. The beer was very fresh, too. Delicious food for a good price. Male server with glasses is amazing and very accomodating for english speaking too. Was served very quickly and the food was amazing and a huge portion. Drinks were reasonably priced and well made. Lots of good vibes in the evenings with their terrace and lights + music. Only 4/5 stars in service category because they don't assign you a separate server. Our main server that took our order initially spoke very well english and was lovely in general. Another server did not speak english well, made no eye contact and was honestly not that pleasant to interact with. Also honestly don't know where my tip went as the second server was the one charging my card and would've tipped more if I could have tipped the other one. Either way I understand it is a local restaurant and they don't have to accommodate the ones that don't speak czech, it would've just been nice to have eye contact or even some czech babbling from the second...

Perfect location to eat. Leave the center and go here to enjoy perfectly fresh made food, attent and friendly service and a good time. Prices are only half of what you pay in town, with much better service and food quality. We fell over this restaurant by chance an will definitely come back the bed time we visit Prague.

Add on: we have just been there the second time and I can only underline my opinion. It's worth the effort...
