The references to Mallorca and charter flights to Costa Brava at the entrance should have been a red flag... Oysters and Grill is a restaurant of the Cofoco group focused on seafood. It's not a good look when the most memorable dishes are fries and bread. Let me explain. O&G offers a seafood menu, consisting of both cold and warm dishes, plus dessert (ice cream or cheese). The cold dishes include obviously oysters, both raw (3 types, not memorable but okay) and fried (forget about it, just bad; and I like grilled and fried oysters), shrimps to peel (not great, felt defrosted), ceviche (literally 4 bites of fish swimming in liquid and... sweet corn? What the actual heck) and crudites (cut really chunky). The warm dishes are Peruvian scallops (okay but drowned in soy sauce), deep fried shrimp (these were actually fine), mussels (tiny and chewy) and razor clams (which were, uh, coarse? Never ate that much sand). End with comte and really good toasted bread (but the extra 20 kr for it, of which the waiters don't warn you is just petty). We had a glass of cava and two glasses of wine each. The wine menu is straight from the 80s, and none of the wines by the glass fit well with the food. They have a house orange wine which is fine, but more of a sour beer and in no way pairs well with the food. Can recommend the help of an actual sommelier to craft a better menu, as we were told that one of the owners makes the list. The service is not great, even for Copenhagen standards. Nothing wrong with being young and inexperienced. Not knowing anything about the food and wine is, however, not great. Also it's really weird to suggest guests that "you might do like a previous group, they just ditched the food and kept drinking!" or "I always get drunk here!". Finally, the place itself feels like what you'd expect from a "charter flight to Costa Brava"... can't say we weren't warned. If you like seafood, you're better off going to places like Kødbyens Fiskebaren or Donda, as O&G is...
Read moreWe took a menu for three persons to share, consisted on 5 plates. -The portions were in the small side, not enough food for three guys. -The ceviche was good -not that it is so difficult to make anyway-. -The fried pawns tasted very good. -the salad was very small -for three persons!- not seasoned or anything, just plane salad with mayonnaise besides.
The cheapest wine in the menu -Pont Neuf Blanc, Languedoc Rousillon- was very good, in my opinion it is totally worthy to go for this wine instead of spending more money on another one. *We had a problem with the “peel and eat shrimps”, because all the shrimps had the own eggs attached (see picture). First of all this is an ilegal technic in the EU. It is forbidden to catch any crustacean that comes with eggs (to prevent extermination of the species). We said this to the waitress, she just answered "that is the way it comes" and then left. I would have expected more initiative from her to come with the person in charge of the restaurant to ask more about it. In other places when you complain about something -and you have certain grounds to complain- the customer service of the restaurant takes action (perhaps they bring something else instead, or pay for coffee, give you a treat, whatever...), but in this case 0, nothing, niente. *we were in the second floor of the restaurant and it was very dark, just a little bulb over the table gave no light -see also pictures with no flash for to appreciate and illustrate better my point, pictures were taken with an iPhone 11 Pro-
I won’t come again, I rather to spend my money on other restaurants where the focus is to please the clientele. Also the fish were not that fresh, and taking into account that Denmark is surrounded by water this is not acceptable...
Read moreWe had a generally pleasant experience at Oysters & Grill. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming, which created a nice atmosphere.
When we arrived, the waiter asked if we would like him to “offer” us a glass of Prosecco before ordering. Based on how it was phrased—and from past experiences at other restaurants—we assumed this was a complimentary welcome drink. So, it was quite surprising to see a charge of 130 DKK for the two glasses on the final bill. The wording made it sound like a hospitable gesture, not something that would be added to the check. A clearer approach would have been to simply ask, “Would you like to order a glass of Prosecco to start?”
As for the food, everything we ordered was quite good. We had the padrón peber, moules frites (generous portion), grillet havbars (also well-sized), and the yellowtail. The yellowtail was especially tasty, although the portion was noticeably smaller than what we had seen in the photos. Complimentary bread slices were also brought to the table, which was appreciated.
Another positive experience was the trust the staff showed when it came to redeeming our Cofoco points. I had called the restaurant beforehand and was told I could just provide my name and email to redeem points. So I didn’t bring my physical Cofoco card. Only upon arrival did I learn that the card was in fact needed. Thankfully, they kindly let me go home to get it without any issue, which I really appreciated.
Overall, the experience was good—just slightly dampened by the misleading Prosecco situation and somewhat high prices. Still, the warm staff and enjoyable food made it a...
