TL;DR I asked if food is vegan, they said yes. I found meat pieces in my soup and was gaslit by one of the girls working there. If you want a fully vegan meal you have to ask for it to be cooked separately.
AVOID THIS PLACE IF YOU ARE VEGAN. I had the worst experience here. I asked on three different occasions if they have vegan options, and I was told that you choose your own ingredients and that all the broths are vegan. I naively assumed that I can eat here, and I ended up being served meat in the soup.
What was maybe even more shocking was the attitude of one of the girls working there when I mentioned this. To be clear, I’m a non confrontational person, and I approached her very humbly, saying that “I think I was served meat in the soup, and I wanted a vegan one”. She immediately started to roll her eyes, and kept saying that their broths are vegan and cooked with mushrooms. She then ignored me and continued to clean some tables. I was honestly taken aback by the whole situation, I haven’t had meat in 8 years and I felt completely disrespected. I then approached her again and asked her if she can tell me which mushroom could that be, and my boyfriend who is a meat eater pointed out that the pieces we found have the typical meat shine. Her response was that I am being disrespectful to her country, because I don’t know how they cook the mushrooms, and that what I found in the soup was obviously a mushroom. She then brought me a package of these said mushrooms, which I could clearly distinguish in the soup next to the meat pieces. At this point, another girl working there stepped in and handled the situation.
She explained to me that the soup is recycled (I am not sure what this means, I guess they cook soups in the same pot, and they can get contaminated), and that there was a misunderstanding and I should have mentioned that I want a fully vegan soup, so they can cook it in a different pot. (I generally ask in burger places if they fry the meat in the same grill etc., but it never occurred to me that they would do this) Crazy. She apologized for her colleague and told me that it was the second time she had to do this that day, and that this girl even rolls her eyes in front of their boss. I was offered a refund, but that’s absolutely not something that makes me feel better in this situation.
I know that by some people, being vegan is taken very lightly and seen as a fad, but it’s my body and my ethics that were utterly disrespected. It’s not something you can joke around with. If you say something is vegan, make sure that it...
Read moreThis place is legitimately good! I’ve already been here twice and it’s only been open less than a week.
How it works: *pick your ingredients from the containers in the fridge *choose your broth *they weigh, cook, and bring to you
Now, let’s talk about some of these one star reviews.
Yes, it’s more expensive than a 90kr takeaway box. It’s also not a takeaway box. It’s a legit, high-quality hot pot meal made to order in the center of Copenhagen. Expect to pay 150-200kr/per person. If you’d pay this for sushi, pasta, or a fancy burger, but get salty because it’s Chinese food? That says more about you than the food.
Please be warned, the original broth is SPICY. This isn’t Danish supermarket salsa spicy (aka not spicy at all). This isn’t even normal spicy. This is SICHAUN spicy. So if you don’t eat spicy food normally, pick a different broth. Don’t ignore every warning, sweat through your meal, then leave a one-star review because your ego got steam-burned.
There is a light spicy version of the original, but my boyfriend still cried eating it. You’ve...
Read moreFamily of three: each had a portion of hot pot, some soda and rice. The total was 560 DKK. The servings were big enough that my daughter and wife were unable to eat their portions. The process was interesting: first you choose ingredients - we followed the suggestion of having just over 400 g per serving (with the plastic container 570 g). Then you choose the flavor - there are 4 different ones (standard/spicy, mushroom, tomato and ginger) - we all picked different ones, all were great, but classic spice was my favourite. Then you give your chosen ingredients to the staff and after 5-10 mins you receive an amazing hot pot. We saw many asian people eating there and they all seemed to be super happy with the quality. For us most of the ingredients were new or unusual, but all were very tasty. The staff was very helpful and extremely friendly. I will definitely come back. At this moment they do not offer take-away as the hotpot has too high a temperature for acceptable plastic containers (some Danish regulations), but maybe it will be possible in...
