The Absolute Best Indian Food in Copenhagen — A Local Gem!
Sholay in Copenhagen SV (Sydhavn) truly offers the best Indian food I have found in the city, hands down. When I lived close by, my partner and I were loyal customers, often eating here monthly or even more frequently. Even though we have moved away, it remains a mandatory stop on our checklist whenever we are in the area—that’s how good it is!
The food is consistently excellent and bursting with authentic flavor. Their Butter Chicken (which I ordered almost every time) is phenomenal, and I highly recommend trying their signature Sholay drink (I prefer mine without salt!).
What makes this place so special is the atmosphere created by the people. The staff is always pleasant and incredibly helpful, and the owner is a genuinely kind man who always took the time to greet us.
Thank you, Sholay, for maintaining such high quality and providing such a warm experience. Highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for phenomenal Indian cuisine! Special greetings...
Read moreThe hospitality at this restaurant is abysmal. Despite visiting three times in one week with my parents (my mom liked the food there), we were never greeted or acknowledged, even when I made the effort to say hello.
The staff member in charge is a bit rude. When my dad needed tap water to take medicine, they falsely claimed they didn't have any and insisted we buy bottled water instead. Only after a simple followup question (how do they do the cooking then?), did he admit they had tap water but refused to provide it, spending 20 minutes ranting at us. Even after we bought the bottled water.
Indian culture is celebrated for its warmth and hospitality, which makes the absence of these qualities here particularly disappointing and ironic. Paying a premium for food should not come with such a lack of basic courtesy. The refusal to provide simple tap water for medication, combined with dishonesty, is disappointing. Basic decency should...
Read moreI recently visited SHOLAY and was absolutely blown away by the biryani and chicken korma! The biryani was perfectly spiced, with each grain of rice infused with rich, aromatic flavors that made every bite a delight. The chicken was tender and juicy, complemented by spices that were balanced beautifully, giving a depth of flavor that left a lasting impression.
The chicken korma was equally fantastic – creamy, with just the right hint of sweetness and a mild heat that didn’t overpower the dish. The meat was cooked to perfection, melting in my mouth with every bite. Paired with the naan, it was an unforgettable meal.
The service was warm and attentive, and the ambiance made the whole experience even better. Highly recommend this place if you’re looking for authentic, delicious biryani and chicken korma!
Usman was attentive, friendly, and made us feel right at home. Highly recommend both the food and the...
