Bamboo — Restaurant in Higüey

There was so much wrong with our experience here. The buffet for the sushi had cooled areas. However, they use foam blocks to elevate the plates, completely obstructing any possibility of food being kept chilled to prevent food poisoning. Now let's talk about the food. Ok most dishes have some sort of rice, whether it is sushi or rolls or whatever. The rice was so overcooked that when it was used for the sushi and rolls it was more like eating oatmeal or playdough. If you don't like drinking wine, don't plan on being able to order anything other then soft drinks. They do not have a regular bar. And last but not least, since a lot of the searing is in an open area, you get special guests that visit during your meal. Not little guests like the lizards you expect, but cats. Feral cats that look like they are on the verge of starvation. Which leave you wondering if they are about to jump on your table as you eat. The staff does absolutely nothing to deter this poor animals from walking around at your feet while you are seated for dinner. Helios at TRS Turquesa is the only restaurant at these Palladium resorts that we found to have exceptional food, staff...

okay so here’s the thing the outdoor waiting area is over a faux swamp of sorts and super buggy at night. be ready to get bit up. don’t worry, the mosquitoes will follow you inside so you don’t get lonely. god bless the poor hostess that has to stand outside and get swarmed by them. all things aside, the service is excellent as always. they keep the drinks flowing (although this restaurant only offers beer and wine, no mixed drinks) and are so kind and courteous and work to communicate with us. the food……. was edible. the salad bar was warm-interesting assortment. the edamame was the best offer available. in general, the food isn’t that good. but can the bar really be that high for asian food in the caribbean? perhaps not. if we were to recommend a dish, it would probably be the duck (but not the rice it comes with) or the pancake rolls. the texture of sticky rice pudding was traumatic. if you have to get a dessert, get the cheesecake. honestly, you aren’t missing much if you can’t make it to Bamboo...

Wonderful service from our waiter, Delvin, on our a anniversary trip. He is truly a top-notched, caring, and very attentive waiter. On our last meal on the island, he surprised us by having a special table prepared for us adorned with flowers! We were wholly surprised by his unexpected thoughtfulness. In all of my travels, he is simply one of the best waiters I've ever had. In general, the restaurant and its staff are very attentive and responsive to individual needs. My wife has a gluten allergy and the chief Winert came out prior to our meal to make sure all was safe.
