So far Punta Cana has been one of the biggest and most expensive disappointments I've ever had on vacation. The food at this place was disgusting, the service was horrible, the environment was the only decent thing. They literally have it on the menu listed that 18% taxes + 10% "service fee" is included on the check. Then when the check comes they try to pull a fast one and someone with their phone and Google Translate tells you to leave extra tip. My fiance ordered a drink first, I ordered 3 appetizers from the menu. First the waiter comes back and says they don't have that drink, then leaves again. Then she returns and tells me they don't have beef empanadas, only cheese and something else. I was already annoyed at that point, so I said 2 cheese was fine. When the "empanada" comes? Big surprise! That is actually sliced bread with cheese inside, folded AND fried. Again, my cats and dog eat better "food" than this. Then ordered something else that was like Dominican something fried appetizer. It was fries, fried plantain, "burned ends", fried bologna (yes, but they will call it "salami"), cheese cubes and a side of a TINY bit of ketchup. Again, underwhelming and 100% NOT food anyone should be paying to eat, not here nor ANYWHERE else. The papaya juice and Pina colada were great, but the food was disgusting and the service was beyond embarrassing for a place that depends 100% on tourism. All the people working there looked confused and like they didn't even speak the same language, and even attempts at speaking Spanish with them were received with confused looks. This whole vacation experience has been a rip off and I'd personally never visit the DR based on this experience ever again. And most definitely would NOT recommend it to anyone else I know...
Read moreThe worst experience EVER! This café looks nice from the outside, but don’t be fooled. It’s not a friendly place at all. We asked for a fresh brownie and a fresh coconut macaroon to take away. They told us both were made today. So we decided to buy them.
When we went to pay, they asked for €8.50 (about \$9.50) for just ONE brownie. We were shocked. That’s RIDICULOUS. We said we didn’t want it anymore. But then the staff suddenly got very aggressive and even threatened to call the police if we didn’t pay. It was really scary, so we paid just to get out.
Then we took a bite... It was absolutely HORRIBLE. The brownie was so hard and dry, like a brick–we could barely bite it. It tasted like it was 5 days old–maybe even older. Definitely NOT FRESH. The “coconut macaroon” didn’t taste like coconut at all. It was just a dry, hard cookie with no flavor, just a piece of plastic. It was so disgusting… I can’t find the words to describe. We almost broke our teeth, that’s not a lie.
I felt nervous, but I gathered all my courage and told them honestly that there was NO WAY this food was fresh. I explained that it tasted VERY old and stale. But instead of listening or showing any understanding, they just aggressively repeated the same line: it’s made today. yes sure…. We feel completely SCAMMED and TRAPPED.
Honestly, this was the worst food I’ve ever eaten in my life, need to threw it away immediately and paid so much for. The staff were rude, scary and threatening, the prices were crazy, and the food was literally awful... Please don’t go here and stay far far far away. It’s definitely not safe and it’s not worth even a single cent....
Read moreThis review is only for the restaurant. We ordered the Four golpes, which has an advertised price of less than DOP600. I got a bill with a price, and the waiter asked if I was going to pay with a credit card. I said yes, but when I got the bill they had charged me almost 50% (more) of the total price. I asked the waiter why and he said that you only get a discount if you pay cash. I was not aware that the price on the menu was a discounted price and not the real price. The waiter became angry and started talking about prices in Norway... I had no idea I had traveled to Norway by mistake and not Punta Cana (By the way, the waiter was wearing unclean clothes and his nose hair was sticking out - really grossed us out)... The breakfast itself consisted of a small-overcooked egg, one small piece of salami (Dominican restaurants usually give three) a very small piece of cheese and an equally small piece of avocado. Coffee was instant coffee. All in all, each breakfast costs about $15 each. I'm from New York City, and for that price, I would get a much bigger breakfast in midtown. I Don't recommend it. You can get a better breakfast with much better coffee from the restaurant across the street and it only...
