I came without expectations, just looking for a quiet dinner with a view at the hotel where I was staying —one of those lazy moments… and ended up having one of those unexpected surprises that make you stop and think, “Why didn’t I come here sooner?”

From the moment you step onto the terrace, Tamashi feels special. The soft breeze, the glow of the lights, and that panoramic view of Punta Cana all blend into a calm, elegant atmosphere. It’s stylish but never tries too hard; you feel welcome, not intimidated.

The sushi was genuinely impressive — fresh, balanced, beautifully plated, and clearly made by someone who respects the craft. Every roll felt deliberate, not overdone or drowned in sauce. The sashimi melted effortlessly, and the chef’s specials had that perfect mix of creativity and restraint.

The service was another highlight. Friendly without being intrusive, attentive without hovering. The staff made the evening flow naturally, even suggesting pairings that turned out spot-on.

Drinks deserve a mention too — the cocktails are sharp and imaginative, and their sake list is more serious than most places in the area. Sunset is the perfect time to be there; the sky practically does the décor for them.

Overall, Tamashi was an impressive experience from start to finish — one that sneaks up on you when you least expect it. What started as a simple casual dinner turned into one of the most memorable evenings I’ve had in Punta Cana.

The ambience is good except for the shade that keeps clanging from the wind in the background …very annoying. The waitress was friendly, appetizers were just ok but the entrees were what really ruined the experience after waiting approximately 45 mins after placing the order. We ordered 3 lobster dinners that we had to ask for and wait for the drawn butter, when it was stated that it came with it on the menu. Lobster was overcooked and in one case, not edible because it was mushy. Ribeye was requested to be prepared well done and it was medium rare. The scalloped potatoes were just plain mashed potatoes. Unfortunately, the experience at this restaurant was very disappointing. The food did not meet quality expectations – the rice was poorly prepared, resembling mush, and the tuna and salmon were completely flavorless. The service was also poor – the waitress lacked basic etiquette. Additionally, communication in English was challenging, as the waitress spoke and understood very little. Moreover, the prices on the menu are listed without taxes, so you will only see them added on the bill (waited 15 minutes for the bill, even though there were only three tables occupied in the restaurant).
