A full-service restaurant and beach club, conveniently located at the end of the access road to the Corales part of Bavaro Beach. Zoho Beach Club (surrounded by Balinese beds and umbrellas for you to use while enjoying the Caribbean sun) with music and a great menu.
I liked this establishment more at night when cool lighting are there, smooth breeze, sounds of waves, and no crowd. if I have to recommend one restaurant in Bavaro for dinner, GO FOR THIS.
They have multiple seating options, on the patio, outside, inside, and on the porch - see what suits you. live music is always there. Sometimes they are booked for the event (normally a wedding) so call before you go.
We settled ourselves and ordered
Pechuga pollo- Chicken breast- not that great, and you have to pay separately for fries. – 3/5 Papas Varias- Potato fries Camarones En salsa- spaghetti with shrimp, prawns, and local seafood items, great sauce – 5/5
Supercool Decor, nice spot right on the beach, good service, live music... what else you can ask for in the Caribbean country
price was good but it was the tax that troubled me.
Tax: they have 18% ITBIS tax which is value-added tax (VAT/sale), on top of that, they charge 10% tax, they call it Ley tax. Dominican law requires hotels and restaurants to add a 10% service tax to their bill (in addition to the 18% sales tax). Sometimes bills will show this 10% under a label that reads "Ley" (law). If asked, managers will say that "service is included" while employees will say "tips are not included".
So, I paid 28% tax on the bill amount, plus the waiter will say while handing the bill that the tip is not there in the bill, so now you are paying a tip too... in short, you are paying 35 % extra of the...
Read moreThe restaurant is lovely, but that's as far as it goes in terms of customer service. We went for lunch, and didn't even get to eat only order drinks so I can't say anything about the food. I went with two friends and our children. 1yr old -12 yr old. As soon as we walked in we should have left. The look on the waitresses faces felt that we were not in good place. We decided to stay and try it out anyway. It's a beach restaurant, so the two youngest were playing in the sand. No kids screaming or running in the restaurant. Yet the waitress Betty seemed to dislike us being there. We continue to order drinks and juices, and seemed to be a bother. We couldn't even hold on to stay to eat, because feeling like an inconvenience or disturbance isn't a place we want to spend our time. We asked for the bill to leave and when we asked for change, she said she couldn't give us change. I said that's weird, then she proceeded to say in a very rude tone, that she is not the cashier. I said ohh OKK, so please ask the cashier for change. Then the other waiter came to "clear" the situation in which Betty than said she was explaining to us they had no change. I'm not sure if she wasn't aware that we ALL speak spanish properly, and then left. The experience would haven been an OKK experience, nothing to rave about without her impoliteness. But as someone who lives here full time and goes to many beach restaurants with her kids, family and friends, I can guarantee I'll never give my money to...
Read moreUnfortunately a waitress named Anna ruined everything with her terrible and arrogant attitude!
We were a party of 4 walking in around 10.45am (4 expats living in the area for over 15 years, and one of us being a well known food blogger).
We asked if they served breakfast and another waitress said yes so we walked in. Then Anna appeared asking if we had a reservation 🤷🏻♂️... bit of a odd question when the place was literally empty, but ok... we finally were able to find a table outside and then she asked what we wanted to order. We requested if she could bring us the menu first... when she came back with the menu there were no breakfast items on it so we asked her if she could bring us the breakfast menu and then she replied that breakfast had finished at 11am (being 10.50-10.55am). We explained her that her colleague behind the bar told us that they serve breakfast. Anna’s reaction was aggressive and completely unacceptable telling us that WE (the client) should have known that the girl behind the bar is wearing a different uniform and that she is not in charge. She is blaming us... We couldn’t believe what she was saying... we looked at each other and started laughing out of disbelief. We didn’t want to start an argument so we stood up and left a he place.
Very unfortunate because the place looks nice, but it is worth nothing without a manager and with employees who just don’t give a f*ck!
We won’t be recommending this place or returning...
