Hotel Longchamps is a jewel of boutique hotel.
The hotel is cosy and intimate. Hotel Longchamps is located on Gezira Island at the heart of Cairo, which is a garden quarter where the embassies are located as well. The interior of the hotel utilize voluminous wooden furnitures and vintage brass decorations to give you a sense of weight and thus a sense of relaxation almost immediately. And all these furnitures are maintained decently. Despite its 69 years history, the hotel ages well, just like a bottle of quality red wine.
The hotel prioritizes usefulness. The hotel has two elegantly decorated terraces where one can relax or meet friends. The public area has machines for water and coffee. Its central location means the convenience to almost every tourist attractions in Cairo by taxi while restaurants, cafes, bars and even banks and supermarkets on the island are within walking distance. When you go out, you can keep your key at the reception as well.
The hotel is safe. There is a video surveillance system for the public area of the hotel and one 24 hours security guard at the entrance of the hotel. The contractor for security is the same with that of the embassies.
The hotel has attentions to details and it has good taste. All the sanitary products in the hotel are from Germany. The hair dryer is Braun, the hot water kettle is WMF. Each section and subsection of breakfast has its own spoon and spoon rest. The proprietor of the hotel Hebba, although she humbly calls herself the concierge of the hotel, is a certified wine connoisseur by conseil des échanson de France. German Air Force, Swiss Embassy were the guests of this hotel and they sent acknowledgement letters, highly praised this hotel for its quality of service. And when was the last time you saw a Pina Bausch's modern dance poster and a set of Encyclopædia Britannica are a part of hotel's decorations? In a time where everything is standardized and calculated, this hotel carefully, even meticulously shelters this possibility of personal taste.
To sum up, this hotel ticks all the boxes of a decent boutique hotel with modern amenities. Its style is exquisite and effortless chic. It is more than a hotel. It is a love letter to l'Élégance. It is an oasis in a...
Read moreA fantastic place for me to end my 3 week adventure of Egypt! I'm so glad I chose to stay at Hotel Longchamps over the bigger chain hotels that I was considering.
Walking into the hotel with its charming (authentic) antique decor made me feel like the explorers of old. Actually even riding the lift up from the nondescript building entrance was an experience.
Despite the classy antique decor, I found that all the amenities were modern enough (not super modern, but then again almost nowhere in Egypt is) and comfortable enough. The bed is definitely among the firmest I've experienced in a hotel (the prize is taken by a hotel in mainland China), which I didn't have any issue with but might not be your thing. I also very much appreciated the hotel having a drinking water machine for guests to fill up with - I really disliked having to survive on bottled water throughout Egypt so was delighted to be able to fill up my water bottle at the hotel.
Hebba and her team have top notch customer service standards. Warm and friendly, but not imposing. Requests for a breakfast box and to store my luggage while I was on a tour of the White Desert were dealt with happily, and I felt very much at home there in the few days I stayed at Hotel Longchamps.
The Zamalek neighbourhood where the hotel is located is also extremely pleasant, with quite a European feel to it. Very quiet (a welcome escape from the constant traffic noise of Cairo) but with plenty of all the shops you'll need and some good food.
Loved it and I can only recommend staying at...
Read moreHotel Lonchamps is a hidden gem in Cairo! Having stayed in a few different hotels in the city on our trip, all of which were 4 or 5 star big name hotels, I can confidently say that Longchamps outranked them all! Most of the hotel buildings are relatively old and, even with some renovations, don't compare to the cleanliness and prestine of this hotel. As you arrive, you'll walk into a seemingly empty building and can choose to take the elevator or the stairs up to the hotel. Don't be alarmed, the location is perfect and the building is nice and quiet. Longchamps is in a university area on Zamalek island that has a great vibe during the day, is easy to walk around safely--traffic isn't horrifying here, and is nice and quiet at night. Our bedroom window opened (with a screen) to trees and the sound of birds every day, even in busy Cairo! Breakfast is simle and very delicious, and the hotel has a beautiful patio surrounded by trees and plants. It was hard to believe we were in the middle of such a big city! The atmosphere and staff just topped it all off. We felt so relaxed while we were there and were taken such great care of by all of the staff we met. Thank you so much to Heba and her team for making our stay nothing short of perfect! We'll definitely be back again and I would highly recommend staying here to anyone visiting Cairo or looking for...
