What a cool place to eat in Tallinn. I went for dinner here with a good friend of mine and we both enjoyed our time there. The restaurant design is wooden and cozy, and the food was just what we needed. The battered calamari with garlic mayonnaise was a sensation of flavours, well presented and matched perfectly with the prawns two ways.
We both loved the mains, the shredded duck burger with sweet potato fries, rhubarb chutney and orange mayonnaise was amazing. Good quality meat with flavours that complemented it perfectly. Even better was their Surf & Turf – beef entrecote, tempura blue crab, asparagus, kale, truffle mayonnaise and red wine sauce. I recommend this to everyone if they go there, it is so wonderful.
The desserts looked so good we decided to order three of them. We went for stout panna cotta, poached pears and the cheesecake with berry sauce. We just shared and ate a little bit of all three, it is the the best way to try this...
Read moreThe veal tenderloin was absolutely fantastic. I normally choose medium rare, but into this case, they did it in the same way as I south America; the dont ask you how you want it, the make the meat in the way it was meant to be done, which is perfect! The fries was also crisp on the outside and soft on the inside and perfectly salted. Let's go over to why I chose this place; the beer. They have a wide variety of beers from different suppliers. I focused in their own been and had one ale/apa and it was a "middle of the road beer" that was well tasting, but still not to extreme, so it is a beer you could drink a whole night without getting "taste fatigue". The "13" (if that's the name of it) is a barley wine, and that is a 13% beer with a completely different attitude. This is for the hairy chested only 🙂 Over all, the veal tenderloin will be the thing I'm coming back...
Read morePleasant. Airy. Friendly. Humalakoda pub also delivers on excellent service and pretty good beer.
As an incorrigible hophead, I found the IPA side of the spectrum a bit thin compared to the bigger IPAs you'd find on the North American north West coast. That said, they offer a reasonably wide variety of craft beers. Seated at the bar, we chatted up the bartender and got a selection that suited our preferences.
The most memorable aspect was however the food. The garlic bread is out of this world. It's Estonian rye bread cut into squat, broad strips for easy dipping in the yogurt and chives dip.
Following the recommendation from previous reviewers, I opted for the Cheesesteak and I do not regret it. Cooked just right and served with a semi-spicy chili mayo, it was the perfect partner to my imposing Steenbrugge Blonde.
Well worth a visit to get a taste of the Tallinn...
