I really hope Chef Yohannes reads this. I have eaten at Asabet about 4-5 times since it opened. The food was excellent then, and the overall experience was worth a combined 4 1/2 stars. Fast forward to today, over 9 months since my last visit. I was out with my kids near Hotel Lobelia. They wanted Chanoly for dinner, but I bragged about Asabet and convinced them to take the 10-minute walk there. When we were arrived, we were the only customers in the restaurant. The kids were all hungry. THIRTY minutes after ordering, the food started to arrive. Some of it was lukewarm, and the French fries were under salted and sad. The fish burgers were unlike before and seemed like they were from a fast food joint. The pasta was the only thing of quality. Our final item didn’t arrive until 1 hour after ordering. I felt bad seeing many other customers entering the restaurant. I desperately wanted to warn them, but I restrained myself. The server tried his best, but he was at the mercy of the kitchen. At the end of the experience, I apologized to my kids for the disappointing experience. And, as we walked out an employee apologized to me. I told her an apology for something that bad usually includes a discount. We had paid almost $60. She said, “Next time.” Unfortunately, there won’t be a next time if the restaurant doesn’t improve. Please, please, Chef Yohannes, make some changes. This restaurant is a great concept, and the menu is perfect. But, tonight, the experience didn’t match your...
Read moreI want to start off by saying I had high hopes not only for the food but overall experience due to the reputation the owner has.... MAJOR LETDOWN!! We arrived in the early afternoon. There wasnt any other customer present so we were happy to had have had beat the rush, when we were sitted 2 of us ordered ice tea and the three of us each ordered our own fish and chips. 45 minutes past and we still hadn't even recieved our drinks, when we finally did, it was merely hot tea with 2 melting icecubes. The glasses weren't even cold. An hour later we finally got our meal and it was just the fish in batter, no seasoning of anykind, nothing even remotely appetizing. Just bland food. While we were waiting for almost 2 hours for our food. The owner was too busy with throwing his manpower to 2 white women that came 30 minutes after we arrived and already ordered. They were eating before we got our hot tea with ice. We repeatedly asked the waiters for more ice but no luck. As a person that finally came back to their own country for a few weeks after spending years abroad I expected more treatment by my own kind but the owners tap dancing for foreigners while we were sitting there to get any help was demoralizing. I never leave reviews let alone bad ones no matter the circumstance but this was an specially horrible experience. The owner should do better in treating all of his patrons equally.... STAY AWAY . You'd do better in going to your...
Read moreI was following this restaurant on IG, they have really good pictures of an array of dishes. One of the dises I was excited to try was the Asa lebleb, a locally popular dise and one of my favorite. It tasted fine but the presentation is way off, uninviting and it looked nothing like Asa lebleb, basically it was a fish stew.
The other dise was the recommendations of the night, grilled Nileperch with grilled cabbage and carrot. Well, many thing was not right with this dish, it was cold, the fish tasted spoiled, too many vegetables than fish. We simply tried to fill our belly with it and made the effort to manage our dissatisfaction until we were rushed to settle our bill and leave as they were closing...we were first time visitors of the restaurant, and to have had such an experience was simply unworthy of our...
