My wife and I stopped in without a reservation, looking rough (not even remotely dressed up), and they brought us in, served us well, and treated us as everyone else. We would likely not receive the same courtesy at a nice restaurant in the US. So, the service was above and beyond excellent. The food was great! My reindeer was tender and hearty. I had two foods that completely changed my mind on preference. First, their pickles are soft and well brined in a way unlike any I've had in the Americas, Asia, or Europe. They are now my favorite pickle. The beer I had, which was Olvi III, is by far the best beer I've drank in Europe over the last decade of adventures (sorry Ireland and Germany). My wife ordered the pork belly dish, which was also savory and hearty. Her beets were perfect in flavor and texture, but also as a side choice. She also ordered the cranberry tall drink. It was tart, sweet, and bubbly, which made a perfect counterpart to her dish. We ended with the squeaky cheese dessert. It was savory and sweet. It was like a creme brulee with cheese, and it worked so well. We never imagined a dish like it before trying it. Overall, everyone should try Kolme Kruunua; it's worth it. For the record, if we were to do it again, I would definitely dress more appropriately and make a reservation. I felt legitimately bad about not doing either, but it was the perfect spot after a long day on a...
Read moreI liked the restaurant. It seems to be quite an old place and also very famous in town, as it was difficult to get there for dinner without a reservation. Luckily, my friend and I got a table, but only for one hour, as it seemed all tables were reserved after 6 p.m. The place definitely has personality. I liked its style, even though some of the furniture was scratched and outdated. The staff who worked that day was sweet to me. The menu is pretty extensive, featuring mostly typical Scandinavian dishes. There are many different food options. I personally chose pickles as an appetizer and a Scandinavian potato dish as my main meal. My friend ordered the meatballs. We both enjoyed our food; everything was delicious. However, my Scandinavian potato dish also included a few pieces of pickles, and I was very annoyed that my waiter didn’t mention this, as I essentially ordered a double appetizer. The only thing I would recommend improving is the tea selection because the tea bags they offered were from very cheap brands. The Earl Grey tea I chose was not really tasty. The prices at the restaurant were mostly reasonable, although I would suggest making a few items, mostly the appetizers, cheaper and more reasonable. I definitely recommend this restaurant if you are looking for traditional Scandinavian cuisine. And don’t forget to make a...
Read moreVisited here with friends as they wanted to taste more traditional Finnish food. We were lucky to get a table same evening as overall this place is popular so it's best to book a table in advance. The food was good, we ordered the lamb stew, the meatballs and mash, the reindeer stew and the cut homemade potatoes with pork and sausage and egg. Overall the food was good, but the reindeer meat was a bit dry, and so were the meatballs. SERVICE: The service was passable, but sure can improve for a restaurant of this stature and reputation. Upon arriving the receiving person, a lady, had a dismissive attitude, it felt as being upset for getting more customers. The person that took our drinks order was kind softer. But the one who took the food order was rushed and hurried. So the service is not consistent. The food took quite long to the point that eventually we had to ask for a follow up. They were busy yes, but for some reason other tables that sat after us and took orders later were getting the food earlier.
I recommend it and I would try it again, but perhaps best to visit at a time earlier in the day and not a weekend when it's...
