Went as a group of 11 for a birthday celebration.
The food was mostly of a good standard, however portion sizes varied massively from dish to dish and certain dishes arrived incomplete.
Furthermore the quality of the service from one of the waitresses and the apparent manager was appalling.
In detail:
First, we ordered the 'cook your own meat' dish (priced at €33 per head - most expensive dish on the menu) where the three people taking part in this dish did not receive Thai rice or potatoes as specified on the menu - when we asked for this to be rectified, the staff were very dismissive and brought out undercooked and tasteless rice (hardly 'Thai'). The meat was not seasoned at all and the fact that there was fish and meat being cooked on the same hot plate was bizarre, as it's first and foremost a health hazard and it affects the taste of the meat after cooking fish on it.
Two of our members of the party ordered a cheese fondue to share, they received a big pot of melting cheese however nothing to dip into it! They had to ask for bread otherwise the fondue was rendered pointless!
I personally ordered the 'Souris d'agneau' (lamb) which was delicious, however my concern is that I only received 1 small slice of carrot, 1/2 a stick of celery and 3 mushrooms - which was supposed to count as the vegetables accompanying the dish. I left the restaurant feeling dissatisfied and not full at all.
What we did enjoy was the burgers (with steak for the meat), the stir fried prawns/gambas and one of the pasta dishes (I forget which one).
When we tried to address the problems we had encountered, we tried to do it discreetly (away from the other diners as it would be unfair to make a fuss and ruin their dining experience) and ask for €33 off our bill - which we believed was more than reasonable considering we were a group of 11 dining at an expensive restaurant (3 bottles of wine etc.) however the manager talked to the chef and came back to us at our table and offered to give us the rice free. The rice! Which was actually part of a whole dish! There was a lot of back and forth, and personally, I really didn't appreciate the manager's attitude towards our many problems we had.
In the end, we managed to get the original discount off our bill, however due to the amount of arguing and the attitude of the staff (as well as the unsatisfactory meals for the prices), we will never be going back to...
Read moreI haven’t reviewed a restaurant in a while and I have to say, this restaurant is excellent! I have been in Val Thorens about a week and have gone to a restaurant nearly every night, most of the food elsewhere was disappointing but this place is so welcoming and homey. When I first arrived into the restaurant the first thing that struck my eye was the star-like lights on the ceiling, it was such a wonderful entrance. The atmosphere of the restaurant was so warm, the tables felt secluded yet open, as if you’re in there by yourself. The waiters and waitresses were fun and kind. On one occasion during the evening we noticed a waiter was pouring the alcohol Genepi in an intriguing way and commented on it to our waiter, he then at the end of our dinner presented us with a small cup of Genepi on the house. The last wonderful thing about the restaurant was of course the food. My family and I had ordered a raclette and the traditional fondue, and it was absolutely splendid! It was so delicious and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I sincerely recommend...
