Where do I start… I think the waiter (might be the owner or owners husband based on other reviews) has some emotional issues … he seems very unwell and angry. We sat down .. we looked at the wine menu… it’s extremely overpriced and honestly… we did some wine tasting during the day and I think I’d had enough of the oaky, heavy burgundy whites… I ordered a wine from the Jura and the waiter was very condescending about it… then my friend asked if they could make an aperol spritz - and it was basically like the world ended… it was like a caricature of a snobby French waiter. He said ‘No. We serve only serious things here.’ He then grabbed the wine menus and stormed off… never giving my friend the option of ordering something else. She was apparently only allowed water through dinner after her fatal error.
Perhaps such rudeness could be worth it… IF the food was exceptional I might considering accepting such abusive behaviour but sadly… it was not. The gaspacho was not good. The salmon risotto was correct but nothing to write home about. My dessert- pain perdu… disgusting. My friends œuf meurette was quite tasty (but probably would be good at most any restaurant in burgundy as it’s the specialty) Her cod was over-cooked and she didn’t make the mistake of continuing on as I unfortunately did.
At this point we both wanted to leave and I wanted to cancel the coffee I ordered with dessert because it was late and dessert was inedible… I looked to try and make eye contact with the waiter and he made a face at me.
I’ve lived in France for 5 years and my husband owns a restaurant. This is the first time i have ever not left a tip. I think this place is a total tourist trap and the owner is a...
Read moreA Hidden Gem in Beaune: The Best Boeuf Bourguignon I've Ever Had I stumbled upon a true culinary gem hidden in the heart of Beaune. This unassuming restaurant, tucked away from the main tourist hub, offers a dining experience that is simply unforgettable. Their boeuf bourguignon is, without a doubt, the best I've ever tasted. The rich, hearty sauce, infused with the flavors of Burgundy, perfectly complements the tender, slow-cooked beef. It's a dish that showcases the true essence of French cuisine. Beyond the incredible boeuf bourguignon, the menu features a delightful selection of classic French dishes, all prepared with meticulous attention to detail. And let's not forget the wine list. Any wine lover would be green with envy. The selection of Burgundy wines, in particular, is simply outstanding. If you find yourself in Beaune, I highly recommend seeking out this hidden gem. It's a place where you'll experience the true magic of...
Read moreWe were welcomed by the manager who was initially very kind. It was my first trip to the restaurant and I wanted to experience this Beaune landmark. On first inspection of the wine list I noticed prices were significantly higher than pretty much everywhere else in Burgundy we have eaten. I asked for a couple specific bottles I had heard they may have off list and was immediately rejected. Eventually I found a white and was pressured by the manager into ordering a less desirable vintage. It was a regret. Eventually the food came and it was passable but nothing to return for. I felt bad for the manager as it appeared to be just him and one other waiter working the entire space. We had some great meals in Burgundy but this wasn't...
