L’INDIEN — Restaurant in Bordeaux

Something's definitely off here - the rave reviews certainly don't match our experience. And the owner's responses to the negative or neutral reviews that they 'cook like at home' and 'with love' etc., sound glib now, given how utterly bland, tasteless and non-traditional their cooking actually is. I make a better chicken tikka masala, and I'm not even Indian. The naan tastes like it came from a supermarket and was reheated. The butter chicken that several reviewers claim is the 'best they ever tasted' was terrible, and actually tasted nothing like butter chicken. And I've never encountered this concept of serving the main dish with the rice on the same plate in any other Indian restaurant - each item is served separately, and with good reason - but not here. If this was served at an airport bar I might not be quite as scathing, but as others have pointed out, it's expensive - at least 25-30% more than another Indian restaurant just around the corner - and this, combined with what appears to be review manipulation, merits the strongest of condemnation. So, spare me the 'made with love' auto replies and hang your heads in...

We were staying on Rue Huguerie. On the first day we walked the whole way along the street and noticed l’Indien, among other eating places. When we went back to our apartment I googled and noticed l’Indien had very good reviews so we thought we would try it on the Friday evening. We had samosas & pakora to start with followed by Chicken Tikka Masala & Butter chicken with cheese naan & garlic naan. Everything was absolutely delicious. Wonderful flavours and very friendly service. It was so good we went back the next week for lunch. Again, it was excellent. I visited this restaurant today! I had read the reviews and was very eager to try it with 5.0 reviews (that too 280 of them). Being an Indian housewife, I was not going to be easy to please. They cook like our home cooked food and for every single person!! How is that possible? I can cook it only for my family of three. There were 4 groups that arrived at different times and all of us got prompt service where food is concerned. It was fresh, light and very delicious! I came home very satisfied and left my blessings there. Hope everyone gets the feeling I got there. Hope to visit Bordeaux again...
