La Côte de Boeuf — Restaurant in Bordeaux

We had the set menus my girlfriend had the bone marrow which was great, I had salad with cured meat which was ok.

Mains my girlfriend had duck confit which she says was great, I had the entrecôte steak which is where the issues started. I asked for medium rare and the steak came mostly well done, told our server he said he would speak to the kitchen… didn’t come back for about 20 mins and tried to clear our plates. I asked what happened with the kitchen he said they made a mistake which I guess I was just supposed to accept.

He offered to do another steak but i had already waited 20 mins and it was 10:30pm, I asked to take it off the bill and told this would be a problem so reluctantly accepted another steak although appetite completely gone at this point. This 2nd steak just wasn’t cooked at all (not even blue just basically like it was in the butcher’s window) was very poor quality full of gristle and both time chips were cold although tasty ….wine sauce was tasty

When settling the bill no mention of anything from anyone no apology nobody asked why another full streak was sent back….oh and they tried to add an extra...

I hate leaving a bad review as a fellow small business owner and the front of house service was great, no complaints there. Unfortunately the steak was not. We ordered their signature cote the boeuf, and asked for it to be cooked to the chefs recommendation, which was advised as medium rare. We are happy eating rare meat, even tartars, but the beef that arrived was essentially raw in most of the inside and cold to the touch (I was surprised how quickly it came out). It was obvious taken out of the fridge without enough time to get to temperature for the target cooking style and nor was it allowed to rest. We mentioned it to the waiter and he took back in where it was re-seared, again very quickly and back out, not really changing the inside cooking temperature. I cannot recommend this place with the chef that was there last night, it was a really good quality cut of meat and nice venue, but totally let down by cooking without care. Had a set menu dinner there. We waited over half an hour for our starters (we had a salad each) and people who had more complex dishes and who ordered after us got their food first. We were not happy with the food as were few other tables (a locally living couple returned their meat as undercooked, twice!). The toilets were really dirty. The service was friendly and very apologetic, we were allowed to swap our pudding for something outside the set menu and I got a shot of cognac on the house. Starters: my veg tartare had far too much Tabasco sauce in it. My partner had a generous size cheese and ham salad. Mains: My fish was delicious. My partner's duck was dry and tasteless, half of the fries was inedibly overfried. Pudding: tiramisu and Paris brest were both okay.
