Great food at this extremely popular bistrot.
Luckily we booked ahead because there was a bit of a bun fight for tables the minute they opened their doors. People were especially keen on the two tables outside, which we were offered, but every time I eat outdoors a pigeon poops on me... so we went indoors :)
The food was lovely, every dish was fresh and flavourful. We had a drink to start, a non-alcoholic cocktail per waitress recommendation, nice and sweet with a touch of acidity, great start to the meal, 8/10.
To eat, I had; Salmon gravalax to start, good meaty texture to the salmon and a nice little simple salad to go with it. 7/10 White fish in creamy sauce with rice for mains, good flavour, balanced well with the cream. 8/10 Creme brulee for dessert, nice and crunchy on top, the creme was lovely and creamy. Unfortunately served cold bar the freshly bruléed top which I personally find detracts a little from the dish, 7/10
Wife had; Courgette gazpacho, tasty and creamy, with some good heterogeneity in there from sliced of courgette to crunch on, 8/10 Veal stewed with potatoes, the meat was very tender and tasted good, but it felt like there was something missing from this, felt a bit muted, 7/10 Pastry with cream and raspberry coulis, wife was fed up to the gills by this point so we had this to take away and didn't end up eating it til the next day. It was a bit custardy and overall quite nice. Probably could have done with a bit more coulis, 7/10
Overall we had a great time, the bill was very reasonable for a full 3-course (only €66) which was surprising since it's gotten a lot of attention lately and is slap bang in tourist central. A great place to take your gal and give yourselves a...
Read moreI recently had an incredibly disappointing experience at Melodie. Despite making a reservation for two, our reservation was not honored. The staff informed us that we should have booked a reservation for three people, even though there were only two of us and a 6 month old (We have never had to do this anywhere else in France). This makes absolutely no sense and was an extremely frustrating start to our visit.
To make matters worse, the waitstaff claimed the restaurant was air-conditioned, but upon arrival, it was clear that no air conditioning was on. Instead, they attempted to seat us inside the restaurant, where it felt like 120 degrees, despite us having a reservation for outdoor seating.
The behavior of the waitstaff was quite rude and reflected a lack of understanding of basic hospitality. The overall experience was far from what we expected, and it left us questioning their customer service standards.
Melodie could benefit from a change of staff and a thorough review of their booking policies. Updated and clear language on their website regarding reservations would also be helpful in setting accurate customer expectations. I hope they address these issues, as the potential for...
Read moreCozy restaurant with a pleasant fixed priced menu (balances tasty food with price). Recommend sitting on the patio for the fresh air and watching the crowds wander by. Friendly wait staff.
The eggplant caviar was refreshing and tasty with a slice of bacon, garlic cloves, and feta cheese. (Light appetizer)
The St Nectaire Roti was cheesy and warm, with a fresh salad. (Heavy appetizer)
The gnocchi had a warm cream sauce with leeks and walnuts. Quite tasty and a generous amount of food!
The duck breast came with a pepper sauce, baby potatoes, and a fresh salad with a balsamic vinaigrette based dressing. The sauce was a nice accompaniment for both the duck and the potatoes.
The flan pastry was cold, with a smooth texture throughout. The caramel and crumbles brought in additional flavor and texture.
The tiramisu had a speculaas crust, which lent a cinnamon spice to the typical coffee and cream flavors of the tiramisu.
Caroline (server) helped us with some nice food and wine recommendations, while constantly seating new guests and bringing out...
