Great spot for a bite! Me and my mom really enjoyed the food. Waiter was welcoming and accommodating.
We ordered one starter and two mains. Leek in coriander and kiwi puree, mussels, and pork with carrot and cumin puree.
Our favorite was the mussels without a doubt, although the broth was just a taaaad bit salty for my taste - but the flavors were great! The starter, leek with puree, was a good and interesting combination. It felt a little bit like the coriander and kiwi cancelled each other out, maybe one should be more pronounced for a more balanced flavor. The leek could've been slightly more soft. The pork was well cooked and had tasty finely chopped topping of apples and onions which I enjoyed. The only thing that lowers my score from 5 to 4 is that the cumin in the carrot and cumin puree was overpowering. You could only taste cumin, no carrot. The sweetness you expect from carrot was not present. Even paired with the pork it also overpowered the flavor too much. Maybe it was a mistake in measurements of the cumin, as it didn't go nicely together.
Wine was good, had two white wines, which ones I don't remember. They were served in flute taster glasses, which was cute. But I prefer a normal wine glass to get better aroma, personally.
They also put pickle seeds on everything, which I guess pairs with the name, lol. But I didn't feel like it added much to the dishes. However it didn't take anything away either, so I guess carry on!
But overall, really enjoyed the food at Pickles! Would...
Read moreThis was a great find on Google maps. The reviews weren't wrong. 1 of our party had a special request ( no dairy, no gluten) which we had requested when making the reservation a few days before, on the morning of the booking I received a call to confirm that the chef was able to accommodate the request which was a positive for us. We were greeted and seated on arrival and the special meal was confirmed. The atmosphere was chilled and they were a few tables occupied however we received the carte without delay and was advised of the substitution on the dessert menu. The order was taken promptly. The food when received was mouth wateringly good, I choose the butternut squash risotto and the flavours danced on my palate. Great combinations. Overall a great dining experience 👌 Staff friendly and welcoming Service top tier And compliments to...
Read moreWe stopped on a food tour. Normally we roll our eyes because it's a made for "tourist" experience. Ok when we say I. I mean I. Yes I'm a tough critic however it works both ways. The items they had us try were polenta fries and an eggplant dip which they call caviar...hmmm....no. However the bread they served with it, the eggplant "caviar" and polenta fries our menu items we would comeback for and a reason to try out the main menu. The chef (owner?) has visible tattoos all around her upper body and having a full arm tattoo. Intrigues me further. My opinion anyone that's experienced that much pain for body expression art... definitely has an intuition for the mechanics of food. She and her staff were calm, friendly and they had another 40 of us to serve. We appreciate service that shows expertise in their craft. Yes we...
