What a lovely find! We were in Bordeaux for a day of tourism, and we always like to find a nice place for lunch on such days. We were attracted to Racines as it had great reviews, a michelin bib and the fact the chef is Scottish...as a native of the North myself I couldn't resist! We weren't disappointed!
The offering is a set menu with two options per course to choose from. I went for the "all about onions" for a starter and it was soooo delicious, who ever knew that a starter of onions could be so complex and layered with flavour!
For main course we all had the venison which was cooked perfectly and accompanied by a praline cream...oh my god...it was to die for.
For pudding I had "agrumes et amandes", which when it arrived made me smile as it seemed to be modeled visually after a cheese sandwich on white sliced loaf and covered in sandwich spread...the taste was amazing, zesty and delicious!
The three course lunch menu is 35 euros on Saturday and definitely worth the money given the quality of the food and the excellent service.
We opted for the three glass wine pairing for 30 euros, also worth it, if like us you like to discover new wines rather than buying one bottle.
Another point to add, we were there with our two kids (5 and 8), one had the full menu and the 5 year old had a cod main course, they were made to feel welcome and enjoyed the experience too.
Thanks...
Read moreInteresting menu & AC , excellent service but be warned the dishes are micro- more the size for a 8 course menu, I went for lunch. eggplant i adored-marcona almonds, just slightly sweet, miso & black garlic adds umami sauce yum, peach adds lots acidity , sisho leaf is everything in this dish, add lots of flavor -sea bream seaweed, green beans, lobster sauce- lime zest gelee a bit bitter not noticeable with other richness but adds tiny bit of acid. The sauce was very lobstery & then pure creamy, vanilla adds a little something but not physically thick enough to keep pickled mustard seeds from getting lost. And i would've liked more acid or spice would've been nice. I had to remove skin since I personally don't enjoy it if it isn't crispy though the blowtorch made it pretty. fig sub apricot in the dessert, weird bitter olive sauce but with everything else added complexity, fig nice warm melts like a hot Sundae. Would've liked more slightly less done croutons, maybe more rosemary flavor. Would go back to see what else they...
Read moreWe were recommended Racines by our B&B host. At the time of the booking, I informed the restaurant of a dietary restriction. When we arrived the staff were aware of the this and took their time to go through the menu. In addition a one-off dessert had been prepared which was unexpected but wonderful. The menu has a number of course options and wine pairings. The restaurant is small but well furnished and very comfortable. The food was all excellent and the wine pairings went well with the dishes. The service was friendly and informative. As the kitchen is open we did have chance to thank Daniel for the extra effort that had gone in to ensuring that the dining experience was perfect. I would have no hesitation in recommending booking a meal here if you are in the area. You will not be...
