Absolutely lovely! Our waiter Sylvaim was amazing! He was happy to practice his English and helped explain the few dishes we were unsure of.
We order the escargot for enteee, the quatre Viandes and backeoaffa for mains and the Kugelhopf and Schlossberg coupe for dessert.
I'd never had escargot before so I can't compare them to anything but they were very yummy in butter, garlic and herbs.
The Backeoaffa (French meat stew) was nice, though I did find the smaller pieces of meat a little tough whereas the bigher pieces remained tender.
But the star of the night was the quatre Viandes - four meats platter, consisting of deer, kangaroo, zebre and unfortunately the ostrich was unavailable so was substituted with pigeon! I was very excited about this as I'd really wanted to try French poultry dishes like quail or spatchcock but they aren't really the local fare around Colmar. You cook the meat yourself on a heated stone. The mains were served with salads and pickled vegetables. You have a choice of French Fries or gratin and we choose the gratin which was DELICIOUS!
For dessert we order the Glace kegelhopf - icecream shaped in a Kugelhopf mould, encased in a thin coating of chocolate atop a wine soaked sponge and the Schlossberg coupe - pistachio, nougat and caramel icecream with meringue and hot chocolate suace with toasted almonds!
It was an absolutely fantastic evening - great food, great service,...
Read moreAt first it was a little difficult to communicate, but when an English-speaking waiter approached us it was fun. He joked a lot and we all laughed. We were allowed in with our dog and sat at tables outside. My husband and I ordered a set lunch for 25 euros. It came with an incredibly delicious half flatbread (like half a pizza) - it was very, very tasty. Then we were served a huge leg of meat, which was difficult to eat, since I had previously ordered snails and was already almost full. The side dish was potato salad in Dijon. (The salad is the only thing I didn’t like, but it’s a matter of taste. For me, it would be better if it were mayonnaise) Thanks to the wonderful waiter who showed me how to eat snails correctly, this was my first time doing this. For dessert there was something that I don't know how to describe, but it was very tasty. My daughter ate ice cream at the beginning of the meal and at the end, and also took a plate of warm toast with different cheeses on it. It was also quite tasty. We liked the food and the wonderful waiter. As far as I remember, he was half Greek. (if I am not mistaken) Thank you, we had a wonderful...
Read morePretty good food with exceptional service.
The restaurant has a nice ambiance and menus available in a variety of languages. They have a few course menus and kids menus, and they have a good selection of local and regional wines.
The menu offers a good variety of dishes and the portions overall are QUITE large. There’s also a gimmick in this restaurant: they have a selection of exotic meats on the menu including kangaroo, zebra, crocodile, and others I can’t remember, including more standard stuff like beef and duck. You can have these prepared for you or they’ll bring you a hot stone and let you grill it up at the table.
The service, in my opinion, was exceptional and worth a star on its own. Very attentive staff with an eye for detail. Nothing goes amiss. You might find better food in Colmar but you won’t get better service anywhere.
Overall, I had a pleasant experience and would recommend this restaurant to Americans and Canadians who want some interesting but not TOO challenging options on the menu. There’s a lot to like with the food, and you’ll enjoy yourself without feeling too...
