Massively disappointed with this meal. Will write in English as it‘s my native tongue. Friendly welcome and attentive start, my partner and I were offered an aperitif, which arrived shortly after. The crémant and the wines were lovely, as were the starters - she had the bone marrow and I had the fish soup. My only criticism of the soup is that it had grit in the bottom so I couldn’t eat it all; a shame that more care wasn’t taken. Half way through the starter, I called the waiter over as my wine was empty. I ordered a glass of Riesling. There was just one waiter serving all guests, which seemed unfair, but still the starters were good. I finished what I could of my soup and still the wine hadn’t arrived, so I asked the waiter again, 10 further minutes passed and still no wine. My girlfriend then had to ask the waiter again, at which point the mains arrived. I then had to tell the waiter not to bring the Riesling as I wanted red with my main (entrecôte). Literally half an hour after ordering the Riesling, I had received nothing.. Rien. Unfortunately there were no positives from here. At over €30 for a main, in France, I expected so much more. The beef (medium rare) was dry, overcooked and flavourless. It was poorly cooked - the underside was an anaemic grey colour.. no Maillard effect/caramelisation. I honestly could have cooked a better steak myself. The chips were mainly burnt - the potatoes were potentially the wrong variety, containing too much sugar, or the oil was too hot. They were really disappointing. The veg was a joke, 1/2 a turnip, 1/8 of a carrot, 1/64 of broccoli. We told the waiter that we were disappointed with the main but he didn’t care. I fail to see how this restaurant is rated so highly. €125 for literally the worst meal of our trip to colmar, and one which was by far the most expensive. There seemed to be a complete lack of any management or hospitality. TLDR: great drinks, decent starters, bad service, bad mains.
Update following the owner’s response: the attitude of the response is very telling. Yes, my reviews tend to be negative because I feel that people value criticism more (I’ve literally only left 3 reviews in total, so please don’t make me out to be super negative). Maybe go for an evening at Le Cercle Des Arômes to see what good hospitality is like. It’s very offensive to blame tourists when they make up so much of your business - over half of your bookings were either English, German or Spanish when we were there. And it’s hardly regional gastronomy when you use Irish beef.
I also forgot to mention that you have no light in your bathroom - why would you not even put a candle or a temporary light in there? It’s lazy. Learn to be better hosts and...
Read moreVery poor, had a 7.30pm booking last night, arrived & one of the chefs sat smoking outside sat on step next to entrance. Menu had changed overnight said the waiter & most of what we were looking forward to wasn’t on, no Escargo’s, no cauliflower soup, no chicken supreme & more…. Opted for Fillet of Beef, too fatty, underdone & warm not hot as plates were sat under heatlamp waiting as the single waiter trying to look after over 12 tables, very poor service. Had to wait another 10 mins to ask for steak knives as plain knives given & useless to cut beef. Place wasn’t particularly clean. We were left for long periods of time. Main chef came around asking everyone if meal enjoyed, he was holding his cigarette & lighter in readiness of going for his cigarette break. Not good, how its reviewed at 4.8 is a mystery. Avoid, there are far better.
I am now getting threats from business owner for my honest reviews both here, Trip Advisor & Facebook.
Be very careful, not a nice person to do...
Read moreAt Lucas & Chris, a reservation is essential, with limited seating and a full house. The food is rich and indulgent, perfect for a special evening. I started with the sea bass, which was fresh, citrusy, and light. It was a great way to open the meal. The seafood risotto followed, beautifully made with a creamy texture, and the prawns were juicy and perfectly cooked. Dessert, however, was less of a highlight: the pistachio crème brûlée seemed to rely on pistachio paste, which dulled the freshness of the flavor. In hindsight, I should have gone for the chocolate soufflé.
Overall, it was a rich and delicious meal, but when the restaurant is full, it can get a bit stuffy and hot (summer time) something to keep in mind when booking. Still, the quality and care in most dishes make it well...
