Ramloc — Restaurant in Colmar-Ribeauvillé

I went here on a Saturday’s night for dinner and luckily they graciously accepted us with no reservation and made us feel very welcome. The hostess and the waitress were super nice and we had a great experience. Also, they did not seem to have an English menu, which was fine for me since I have a translation app, but might not work out if you expect an English menu. We were a little sick of eating so much meat during our trip in France so we focused our meal on the seafood. While the food was good, it didn’t wow me. We ordered the mussels on the conch pasta with butternut squash sauce and a monkfish dish. The mussels were still Sandy so I was a little disappointed with the dish, but the butternut squash sauce was very well prepared and went very well with the dish. I would give the food an overall 3 star review and the service a 5 star, so decided on a 4 star review. This being said, maybe I’m much harder to please when it comes to food. The meat dishes that other people had ordered around us did truly look great. On New Year’s Day we were not expecting to have a great experience and were pleasantly surprised. We were greeted with a friendly welcome and an offer to take our coats and seated in the simple yet elegant restaurant. You were immediately shown the days special drink menu, and given menus to order. The menu is short and we have not noticed the local specialty off to the side. Our waitress explained that this custom meal included venison, an appetizer and a dessert and was their local specialty. We happily ordered this and were pleased with every dish presented. The wine . This restaurant was absolutely magical. The ambience was nice. The drinks were great. After we ordered our food, they immediately brought us each a little cup of chicken soup that was so delicious. Then when our main dishes came, they were so beautiful. I had the rack of lamb and my wife had the fish burger. To keep this review short, I’ll just say that the food was super delicious and I ate some things I wouldn’t normally eat, but this place prepared them so well. The staff was friendly and super efficient. Again, the desserts were amazing. So yummy. We obviously loved this place and is should be a Michelin star restaurant if it is not.
