La Cochonaille — Restaurant in Colmar-Ribeauvillé

Great service, not good food. It’s don’t think the restaurant that’s the problem - but Alsace food. It’s grim and we were both unable to finish our food.

I had pork cheek with their version of spaghetti. Perfectly cooked meat but the red wine was so so strong In this i could barley eat it. If it had 10 mins cooking down It would’ve been nice. I don’t drink wine, but usually like wine in food. This tasted like a glass of wine with meat. Maybe some will like this?

We also got the classic, 7 meats with what’s like sauerkraut. Apparently 2 of the meats were fantastic, and the others not palatable. Three heaped scoops of the cabbage! The portion size was good, if you know you like this then go here. BUT if you don’t know if you like it I’d caution against this!!

Again, good service very welcoming to us English speakers. Service slow, only one chef (?), great cozy interior, but I wouldn’t be back due to the Alsace food. We sat next to someone who had a few bites then put his napkin on his food, paid, left. So it’s not just us. Probably good restaurant if you like...

Very lively atmosphere, super cosy and charming, the staff were ok but not as friendly as other places I’d been. The food was nothing exceptional as I food the meat to be too hard and the portion unbelievably huge. We ended up struggling to finish our food by the end of the meal; perfect place for meat lovers. Also the fries seemed like it came from a frozen section of grocery store and not homemade.

We wanted to try some authentic Regional food so went here, as it was right next door to where we were staying also don’t forget to make reservations otherwise you may have to wait in the cold for too long.

It’s an experience for sure, also don’t forget to ask for a good wine to match...

Ein echter, bodenständiger Familienbetrieb abseits von Klein-Venedig, bei dem man voll auf seine Kosten kommt. Als ich das Lokal betreten habe, war ich der einzige Gast neben der Tochter des Wirtes, welche ihren Flammkuchen genüsslich verzehrte. Die Frau des Wirtes bedient in Kochschürze, der ältere Bruder scheint der Chefkoch zu sein und der Wirt bedient in erster Linie die Gäste.

Was ich erst danach mitbekommen habe, ist dass das Lokal normalerweise Sonntag mittags geschlossen ist. Da das Lokal nicht über viele Sitzplätze verfügt, sollte man unbedingt reservieren.

Kurzer Blick in die Karte, dann habe ich das Entrecôte mit Pommes bestellt. Das Hauptgericht kam nach einer angemessenen Wartezeit. Das Fleisch war nicht das allerzarteste, war aber super lecker und hatte auch den typischen Grillgeschmack. Die Pommes waren 1a, Mayonnaise war nicht notwendig. Das Highlight war aber das Dessert, das Vacherin Glacé, ein Traum aus Sahne, Eiscreme und Baiser. Wirklich ein Gedicht.

Der Service war sehr zuvorkommend, wenn auch nicht der Allerherzlichste.

Zwei Dinge, die auf jeden Fall aufgefallen sind: Außer mir waren heute ausschließlich Franzosen in dem Lokal Gäste, teilweise sogar Stammgäste. Die Türe zur Küche stand dauerhaft offen, sodass man ein Gefühl dafür bekommt, wie es in der Küche abläuft.

Ich kann kann "La Cochonaille" auf ganzer Linie weiterempfehlen und komme gerne wieder, wenn ich wieder...
