The star rating is largely to reflect the novel and rather exploitative pricing. You essentially pay 31€ for being there! then extra for each course. In my case +7€ for foie gras, then 11€ for venison, then 4€ for a fruit gratin. Which obviously all adds up. Wine is dispensed from a Vinotek type storage system using a n electronic card which stores your usage. Once again not cheap - say 4€ for 40ml & 10€ for 100ml. I am sure that the average restaurant would give you twice that quantity for the same price. This sounds like only a price whinge but you need to be aware of this before setting foot in the place (which is a lovely arched ceiling cellar space). The actual food? Foie gras present and correct. A relatively large medallion of venison covered with a rich reduction sauce, but very minimal vegetable side effects. An unusual fruit gratin, essentially an oven-baked custard with apple & other fruit in it. My all up cost for solo dinner was 65€. The food was of a relatively high standard, but not so brilliant as to merit the rather pretentious...
Read moreNot great. The quality of the food was sub-par. The monkfish was allright but the vegetables tasted like they could have been cooked five times. Quality of the foie gras not great. The smoked lamb starter was ok. The Borgougne beef was too dry. Rabbit ok but also dry. The chocolate dessert was good, the creme brulee boring. Our main waiter was good but had too many tables and the other two did not help out much. The manager pretty much stared at the computer screen all night and did not help out even though it was necessary. The decor of the place really needs an upgrade.
Could have been an unlucky visit, but we would not come back to this place. Bill ended up at 170 euro for three people (2 adults) which it is not at all worth. We let the staff know, but they did not do anything else byr make an apology. Even added 10% service charge automatic when they knew we where...
Read moreWine list - great value, but the “encyclopedia” presentation is rediculous and a gimmick. Cheese - very good. Presentation - very good but pretentious. Stay away from the beef dishes though, the meat quality is sub-par, tough, and not seasoned properly. Chef needs to learn to cook meat properly, such as use some salt. The sauce over the Beef Bourguignon was off. Service was extremely slow. Menu presentation was disgraceful for a restaurant trying to achieve a higher level - cheap plastic. Except for wine, a complete failure - Only took a few bites of the entree and just decided to skip, cancelled dessert, asked for the check and went around the corner for phenomenal burgers that blew this guy out of the water....
