Google Map states that they open at 12 for lunch. I was outside the restaurant at the open plaza at 1145 and I walked near and one of the waiter walked towards me and asked me if I wanted to dine here. I said yes and he welcomed me into the restaurant, asking me to choose if I wanted to sit indoors or outdoors. Just in case it might turn chilly, I requested to sit indoors. And just as I sat down I was given the menu. Looks like they could actually serve customers before 12 and as I entered indoors there were already 2 other customers inside. I read that the Bouillabaisse here is famous and people do actually recommend trying this dish here, but I looked at the menu and I couldn't find it. I asked the waiter and he said they don't serve Bouillabaisse here but they do have something similarn which is the Marmite du pêcheur. It looks almost the same because it just a seafood stew with potatoes. I asked if the serving is big and I should order something else, he told me that its big enough as a main so I should decide if I wanted more after finishing the dish. I thought he was kind enough to advise customers not to waste food. Didn't wait long for the dish to be served. Does indeed look like Bouillabaisse. It has a very nice seafood smell, the soup was quite flavourful and rich. There was also a mix of fish, prawns and mussels inside the dish with potatoes. The waiter also taught me the way to eat the bread is to add cheese to eat and then dip into the soup. It was very filling, I was so full that I didn't think of ordering desserts. The price of the dish is on the higher side, but for me I enjoyed the meal and felt that it was worth it with the amount of seafood. The only weird thing I thought was that I wasn't served water while like everyone else from other tables did. Do I have to order a drink to get the bottle of water? Decent food, a good place to taste local cuisine, and pretty...
Read moreSo when I asked our concierge at our hotel he recommended this as being the best place in town for seafood, in particular fruit de mer. When we arrive the place was very busy and clearly the high level of Google reviews and general reputation in town was putting it ahead of the competition. However, I have travelled the world been to many places and I can't say I rated this Fruit de mer was definitely a big letdown for 137 Euros, whilst the oysters were good, the accoutrements were nothing special. But the prawns were very small, they were hardly any whelks and they were tiny and the crab was frankly appalling, a very small female crab which had been badly overcooked so that most of it went back anyway. When I complained about it, the manager couldn't really be bothered and did not offer any compensation which I think was just appalling. I'm surprised to say that I could find much better and tastier fruit de mer in London, and most certainly in northern France you would get something much better than this - in my opinion, it's basically a tourist trap which is quite evident from the attitude of the manager. By the way, the service from the waiting staff etc was quite reasonable so please don't take it out of context, it's just the food and the nonchalant reaction of the manager. Save your money and go elsewhere. There are loads of restaurants selling this type of thing in...
Read moreI was drawn here after reading Jessica Nabongo's book and one of her recommendations was to come here and try the oysters because they're the best she's had. I don't like oysters, but for whatever reason, I felt like she was talking to me because I would just so happened to be in Cannes in the coming weeks. My husband and I came here in the late evening (around 8:30) which is when it's busiest. You can put your name down and receive a number. We waited probably 15 minutes. The restaurant is pretty incredible - there's a lot of seating out front and plenty of seating across two floors. My first impression was the sheer amount of seafood that they go through - everyone has stacks and stacks of seafood on their table. The second thing I noticed was the service - the restaurant runs incredibly efficiently and everyone was so professional and attentive.
We ordered the hot oysters and the marinated mussels. I don't normally like oysters but the tarragon sauce that they baked these guys in was very creamy and flavourful. I enjoyed them. The mussels were also very good. They came with fries which were also delicious.
We finished everything off with some chocolate mousse which was sooo rich and delightful. I understand why this place is very busy, we would definitely come back! Also, I loved how beautifully decorated...
