The day before we booked this restaurant we were attracted by the menu which gave several options for an all inclusive three meal service priced between about 25 and 39 euro or so but I can't remember the exact price.
On the evening that we finally came to visit the menu's that we were given did not have these options and so we presumed we had to order a la carte and that the set price menus were only available during the lunch time. Since it was a special evening for us I did not question it but during the course of the evening we found out that the options were available. The gentleman in the bright blue suit who appeared to be the manager we felt was rather sneaky in not presenting all the options as we ended up paying much more.
After ordering our wine and beer I also asked for tap water from this man and of course the tap water never arrived. I had to ask another waiter.
The fish soup must have been tinned because I have often had the super market variety and there appeared to be nothing home made about it. This was so disappointing as this is always one of my highlights when I visit France.
I asked for my tuna steak to be well done and is was nine tenths of the cross section was completely raw.
Generally it all felt rather catered rather than cooked.
On a positive note my wife had scallops and they were exceptional. Some of the waiting staff were very good. The position overlooking the harbour is unbeatable and I am sure they are in such a prime position that reviews don't matter but I do believe that customers deserve fairness and quality and we felt a bit conned on...
Read moreI visited this restaurant for a business dinner and had a phenomenal meal. The wait staff and owner seemed to take great care to our table as the restaurant was packed with business.
I decided to return two days later with my wife and was met with a lackluster experience. I ordered the same meal but the wait staff seemed annoyed to be serving me. The restaurant was nearly empty but I felt completely uncomfortable and unwanted to dine there. Specific examples include: being ignored for service, delayed service, my wife ordered a dish served in a hot covered skillet of pasta which the waiter left on our table unopened. For reference, the prior night the same waiter presented this dish to another white male colleague and opened it with flair. This seems trivial so we continued with our meal any way. The waiter seemed annoyed we opened the pot as if annoyed we inconvenienced him.
Waiter and manager proceeded to converse with the table next to ours and then later asked for a tip after we were ready for the check.
I don't want to return to this restaurant but moreover, this has been a similar experience across Cannes. When with white business partners we were treated with respect. When dining with just my wife (who is white/I'm black) we were often ignored or met with contempt. I don't want to return to Cannes at...
Read more2 yrs ago I'd given 5 stars to this restaurant. We went yesterday & it was a big deception! Seating is catastrophic as they decided to squeeze seats together so no privacy at all on the terrace plus its unconfortable. You are sharing tables with people you don't know & while they think this is fun in France it would seem an insult in the US & elsewhere. Let alone the service that changed tremendously: I ordered oysters so here comes the waiter to ask me if "I want butter & bread or vinegar"?? I said I want vinegar so he didn't bring butter till we asked _ while it's customary to bring it without being asked! The food was average on the whole but nothing to write home about. While Gaston Gastounette used to be an exclusive restaurant with succulent food and classy Clientèle La Paillote of GG turned into an average café among thousands others. After having been my fav place I definitely wouldn't go back till they make a major shake-up to bring it back to its glory! Good bye La...
