Café Leffe — Restaurant in La Rochelle

It’s not very often I have to give a poor review but on this occasion it will help visitors to make a better decision. Ambience and location was very good, equally the beer too. However, the food was a massive disappointment. All the restaurants appear to serve the same menu, but waiting 40 Mins for the equivalent of a McDonald’s takeaway is unacceptable. We had a superb meal in a restaurant nearby a previous night, and naturally expected the same high standard. We each had a chicken, beef and fish burger and a plate of fish and chips. I thought France prided itself on high quality cuisine, but not at the cafe leffe. The only thing that differentiated itself from maccies was the salad on the plate. My fish was under cooked and had to be returned. If in France, order the unusual/unique dishes for quality although I believe there is no excuse for this low standard being served up and it was expensive. A little confusing for first timers with there being a restaurant side and a cafe bar side but the server was very polite and efficient found us a table to move to in the restaurant. We enjoyed delicious drinks, wine and beer and then outstanding food: Blue Lobster with chips and Moules Marinier. Both delicious and plenty for a normal person. Price seemed very reasonable and considering the location I would say more than fair. A very busy location so maybe best to ask staff before sitting down to avoid confusion. They may serve bar snacks at the round bar tables so if you dont speak French well, it's not clear cut to explain and that's not their fault. My son had fish and chips, and the rest of us had squid and chips. Service was ok, food was ok, portions were a little small. Atmosphere was ok, busy place. Fish tasted fresh, and squid was nicely cooked. The portion sizes varied between us. The pic shows the largest one of the squid plates, but the other two squid portions were 3/4 of that and one of us left the restaurant feeling hungry. My son's fish and chips was enough for a child but would not have been enough for an adult. We paid around 90 euro for 1 fish and chips, 3 squid and chips, and 4...
