You can read the full review and see a short movie about Le Clos du Roy on the only blog for reviews and ratings refracted through the 5D Sensograph of the 5 human senses placescases.com. ....... See .... …. The building is old, the walls are made of local bricks, used from old times, containing a lot of limestone, hence the light color - seen in the photos; …. White tablecloths, exactly in the style of fine dining restaurants.
Feel …. …. Great service! Of course, they observe the etiquette of serving food to everyone at once. …. We asked about their recipe for the lamb, because we liked it very much. The waiter went to the cooks, came back and told everything in detail - no secrets, no pretensions, it was very kind of them to share their recipe with a smile to us.
Hear …. …. Well, there was no music - it was super weird. But we were a big company and we made a lot of noise and talked, so we were not bored at all, but somehow it was as if something was crippled in the atmosphere without music. .............
Smell .... …. Let me say again - the lamb! It won our admirations and not only with the aroma; …. I am a big fan of gourmet coffee - it is served with several desserts, an incredible combination of the smell of caramelized sugar from brulee, coconut, chocolate and fragrant organic coffee from Mexico!
Taste .... …. Very interesting burger - not with a bun, as is standard, but with toasted bread, it was very nice. …. I was very impressed by the vegetables, as a side dish to all dishes - slightly crunchy, with the right amount of flavor; …. The appetizer with home-marinated salmon was unfortunately tasteless. In general, the dishes are not very salty in restaurants in the region; …. Gourmand coffee and the desserts accompanying it - they are so delicious, there was even a traditional Turkish rice pudding, which was sweet on top and I really liked it, although I have avoided this dessert since childhood; …. Mandatory wine for food, there is no way without it.
You can visit Le Clos de Roy restaurant in Sant Emilion, but I'm sure there are other good restaurants around, so if you have time, give it a chance elsewhere, but you certainly won't go wrong here. Read moreThis is a real gem of a restaurant. Its easy to find (close to the lower car parks) and the outdoor seating pleasant. We had passed it a few times and thought it a little expensive but thought we should try it. It has won various awards recently.
We spent a lovely mid-week afternoon there having lunch with friends - what a nice surprise. Service was impeccable, our hostess was charm itself and very attentive, and in these COVID-19 days I must say their protection measures were very good but not burdensome. We did not want a heavy lunch, so chose the gastronomic taster menu at 34€ - I can recommend it! The faux filet (beef steak) was perfect and extremely tender, the merlu (hake) very delicate, and the macaron with strawberries and sorbet with a mint puree was a work of art.
St Emilion is of course the temple of great wines. They have a bewildering selection of wines, but our hostess helped us choose a really nice when suited to all our tastes. Timing of courses was also very good.
The toilets were spotless and reassuring in these COVID-19 days.
When next in this part of France, give this restaurant a try. You...
Read moreA very nice and welcoming restaurant with outdoor seating at a street triangle. Very nice ambiance. I booked a table online but it turned out to be for the following Saturday!!! The reception person was very understanding and helping us find a solution right away. He found us a table at last minute anyway. We were very grateful. We took a bottle of rose as aperitif. There was a menu panel in English showing that they must have a large English speaking customer base. We speak both English and French. We ordered main courses - Angus beef (Entrecôte) with french fries and Duck Confit and Foie Gras sauce. The food was very tasty although my steak was a bit tough which was the main characteristic of this cut. We had Rosé wine to start with and paired our meal with half a bottle of St Émilion red wine. Desserts were sorbet and ice cream. Then coffee for digestion. We spent about 150€ for three persons. Three mains. Three desserts Three coffee. 1.5 bottles of wine. One sparkling water. Very satisfied. Thank you for your...
