Very overpriced and the food is nothing special. I hated my time there because I constantly had to defend my steak against the 5 big black flies that were competing with me for it.
There are redeeming qualities: the setting is nice, the service was good, and the kitchen stays open -- most other restaurants' kitchens close at 14h even though the restaurant itself may stay open. This is infuriating because it makes Google maps opening hours completely useless. There should be two sections: restaurant opening hours and kitchen opening hours.
Anyway, this is one of the rare places where we could show up at 14:30 and get a table rather than getting refused. That's nice, thank you for feeding us today for lunch.
Overall, it's inevitable that this place and all others around it in St Emilion are nothing but tourist fast food joints in fancy disguise. You won't be offered dishes here that take time and effort to cook. It's salad out of a bag, a piece of meat or duck with a quick sauce, and a side of fries. It's okay. But factor in the super high price and maybe it's not so...
Read morestopped by today for lunch. My husband ordered beef tartar and i got lamb chops. Chops were fine. little too greasy because not grilled on fire but rather fried in fat, but tasty and tender. My husband's tartar was uneatable, they chopped the beef with the knife, which would be ok if they actually shop it all through. But he took 2 bites and told me that the raw chunks of beef are not chew-able. We called the waitress and told he that it's not good so she offered to order something else from the menu, then 3 min later she said that kitchen is closed and he can't have a hot meal. We asked for a check and got a full check including the uneatable tartar. My husband went to pay and said that it's not right, it was not good and we will now pay for it because he did not eat any of it. The chef got mad, was screaming in french, finally she brought another receipt where they charged us half the price for tartar. We paid just to get out of there and forget it. Not the most...
Read moreWow. Fabulous classic south-west French cuisine. Duck is the speciality. All the classics lovingly prepared. The young waiter training to be a fireman did an excellent job. Duck fat chips, foie gras, pata negra, steak and fish all on show here. Great technique and fresh ingredients shone through the meal. Being where it is, the wine selection was excellent. The Bordeaux rosé perfect on a balmy day. Noticed German beers on draft. Dessert was generous and executed very well with simple presentation. Plates and bowls looked to be local pottery work. Top marks for details. Wine vendor attached to the venue. We booked for 7 people. Service was superb and really attentive. They spoke English well. They have menus translated in English and Spanish. Kids menu available...
